The American University in the Emirates is looking for a Management Information Systems (MIS) Officer in the Financial Affairs Department who will be responsible for managing and supporting the university’s financial information systems, ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and security of financial data. The role involves generating weekly and monthly financial reports, focusing on key financial metrics such as income, expenses, cash flow, and budget variances to represent the university's financial standing. The MIS Officer provides analytical support and actionable insights that assist with decision-making, financial planning, and compliance. Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited university
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in financial analysis, reporting, and working with financial information systems
  • Should have an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with a focus on data accuracy.
  • Proactive and able to identify issues and recommend solutions before they escalate.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of financial operations, accounting principles, and financial reporting processes, particularly in relation to expense management.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and advanced Excel skills for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify financial trends and discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of presenting complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to generate actionable insights from expense reports and provide recommendations for improving cost-efficiency.
Job Description
  1. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data related to expenses, revenues, and other financial transactions.
  2. Perform regular updates and data maintenance to ensure alignment with university financial records and budgets.
  3. Conduct data backups and monitor security protocols to protect sensitive financial information.
  4. Generate weekly and monthly financial reports that represent the financial standing of the university, including a detailed breakdown of expenses, income, cash flow, and budget performance.
  5. Analyze financial data, highlighting key trends, expense categories, discrepancies, and potential areas for cost-saving.
  6. Prepare and present reports to senior leadership and department heads, including insights into financial performance, expense management, and any variances from the budget.
  7. Track and report on expenses, ensuring that they are in line with budget forecasts and financial goals.
  8. Provide detailed analyses of expense trends, identifying areas where spending can be optimized or adjusted to meet budgetary targets.
  9. Highlight significant variances in expenses between the actual and forecasted budgets, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  10. Use financial data to monitor budget adherence, identify discrepancies, and provide insights into the university's overall financial health.
  11. Analyze and interpret financial reports to support decision-making, ensuring that expenses and other financial data are accurately represented and clearly communicated.
  12. Develop and generate reports that ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements, especially with regard to expenses and financial accountability.
  13. Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and other reports required for audits or regulatory compliance.
  14. Ensure compliance with data privacy standards and maintain audit trails for financial data access.
  15. Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting systems, and workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy, especially in the area of expense tracking.
  16. Recommend solutions to streamline financial reporting and automate manual processes related to expenses and budget monitoring.
  17. Perform any duties as assigned by the superior.
