The Role All our students – from Early Years Foundation Stage through to IGCSEs and A-levels – follow the English National Curriculum. About You The Head of World Languages has responsibility for leading their team of teachers to ensure the best possible learning experience and outcomes for all students. Job Purpose The Head of World Languages has responsibility for leading their team of teachers to ensure the best possible learning experience and outcomes for all students. In fulfilling the requirements of the post, you will demonstrate essential professional characteristics, and in particular will:

  • Inspire trust and confidence in students, colleagues and parents;
  • Engage and motivate students;
  • Continually strive to develop the quality of students’ learning;
  • Use the student tracking and monitoring process to advance student learning and enhance professional practice in line with the school's aspirations and priorities;
  • Contribute to the school improvement / development planning and promote the learning priorities of the school SDP;
  • Promote the wider aspirations and values of the school.
Qualifications/Training
  • Qualified to bachelors degree level or above in the subject taught
  • Qualified Teacher Status
Experience/Knowledge
  • Experience of delivering a World Languages Curriculum, UK National Curriculum and IGCSE.
  • Qualified to degree level or above
  • Qualified Teacher Status in chosen subject
  • Proven track record with at least two years’ teaching experience
  • Proven record of effectiveness & success
  • Demonstrable evidence of innovating and adapting curricula to engage children and enable them to perform highly
  • Excellent and appropriate relationships with young people
  • Working in partnership with parents

Planning/Preparation
  • Delivering a World Languages Curriculum
  • Contributing resources and materials to the department
  • Attending meetings and acting upon information provided
  • To respond to day-to-day issues within the curriculum area, constantly displaying professionalism and using initiative along with commitment to the departments’ development plan
  • Work collaboratively and collegially, sharing good practice with staff
  • Ensure expert understanding of syllabus/course selection, student exam/assessment entries and this is implemented into teaching practice
Learning/Teaching
  • Improving quality of teaching & learning across the whole school
  • Ensuring all students are working towards achieving the necessary progress in line with national standards
  • Providing a secure and engaging learning environment
  • Delivering learning that is appropriate to the national curriculum & exam board criteria
  • Proactively ensuring that learning is taking place according to the expectations of the department and school policies. Working to endeavor that all students make progress according to the international standards by providing a supportive and engaging learning environment. To work alongside other staff members and the department management to achieve any objectives
  • Promoting a stimulating and inspiring learning environment that ensures the engagement of students
  • Develop teaching and learning within the curriculum area
  • Monitoring the progress of students and acting upon this information
