Responsibilities Weatherford are looking for an experienced R&D Director to develop and enhance their product lines. Reporting to the Geozone VP your duties & responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and coordinate activities of engineering/manufacturing engineering departments in regard to design, layout, document control, and manufacturing.
  • Mentor, guide and coach direct reports in order to expand their capabilities and build expert depth within the department, keeping turnover to a minimum.
  • Develop and maintain a sound organizational structure staffed with qualified personnel.
  • Supervise design/project/application engineers, design/drafters, engineering technicians and manufacturing engineers.
  • Lead and motivate the direct reports efforts of engineering sites in multiple countries.
  • Develop, plan and implement department programs, goals and objectives.
  • Foster cooperation and communication with other engineering groups within the company to maximize the value of being a global organization.
  • As a member of the executive team, actively participate in the management of the company including strategic planning, operations planning, and yearly plan execution.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other members of the executive team to achieve company profitability goals.
  • Ensure staffing levels are maintained in proportion to the expected business level at each engineering location.
  • Support the continuous improvement process throughout the company.
  • Provide a framework that will allow the engineering department to develop, execute and measure departmental goals.
  • Prepare and conduct annual performance reviews for all direct reports.
  • Travel to global manufacturing, engineering, supplier and customer facilities.
  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of projects.
  • Manage the engineering budget.
  • With assistance of hr, recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers and disciplinary actions.
  • Manage engineering operations.
  • Measure and evaluate engineering performance.
  • Direct the research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
  • Represent engineering and manufacturing engineering on cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
  • Minimum twelve years engineering experience
  • Minimum twelve years of leadership experience in a multi-site engineering/manufacturing operation
  • Extensive experience within product development is essential
  • MBA or Masters Degree in engineering or related field preferred
  • Excellent leadership skills that will enable effective, reliable and appropriate decisions and judgments
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
  • Familiar with the requirements of the ISO 9000 quality system
  • Significant experience in effectively leading, facilitating and motivating large teams
  • Experience with mergers, acquisitions and restructuring activities
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven innovator and different thinker
  • Ability to work well with all levels of personnel
  • Knowledge or MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), Lotus Notes DB, PTC WindChill and JD Edwards OneWorld System
