Job details

Aramco energizes the world economy.

Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world's largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.

With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco's value to society.

Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations' spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom's vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.

We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.

Overview

Saudi Aramco seeks an experienced and recognized researcher to join the Reservoir Engineering Technology Team within EXPEC Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC) based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The position is grounded on a framework of circular carbon economy to map current technologies, identify new opportunities, and leverage research to ultimately help our Upstream proponents reduce their carbon emissions. The candidate must be able to initiate and lead research projects in upstream sustainability with specific focus on CO2 emission reduction technologies and hydrogen. This includes undertaking and supervising research and development tasks including lab studies, feasibility studies, field trials and ultimately field deployment. Should be able to direct fundamental and applied R&D studies related to CO2 sequestration in oil and gas reservoirs, aquifers, basaltic rocks, CO2 mineralization or any other related topic, insitu hydrogen generation from depleted oil and gas reservoirs, and underground H2 storage. Focus on reservoir mechanisms including interfacial phenomena, flow in porous media, CO2 interactions and phase behaviour, H2 interactions and interfacial phenomena, and displacement experiments. Must also be familiar with reservoir engineering knowhow, simulation, economics, risk/uncertainty analysis, and operations of sustainability projects including pilots. The position also includes leading multi-disciplinary teams and training junior scientists and engineers. An important aspect of this position is the ability to work closely with our field proponents, with a strong emphasis for field deployment.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform one or more of the following activities, the number and combination depending on the assignment.

(2) Develop, recommend and implement strategies to optimize the quality and utilization of geophysical data.

(3) Supervise, review and quality control the acquisition, processing and interpretation of geophysical data.

(4) Interpret geophysical and geological data to map prospective areas and define areas for further exploratory effort. Recommend appropriate action.

(5) Develop and maintain computerized geophysical databases, and provide support for Exploration users.

(6) Develop and evaluate geophysical computer applications and apply them to solving Exploration problems.

(7) Train new personnel.

(8) Any or all of the duties described in the Geophysicist II job description.

Minimum Requirements

Important duties and responsibilities for the position include:

Perform original and leading-edge research in CO2 emissions reduction technologies

Identifying, developing and mapping current CO2 emissions and sustainability pathways of our projects and technologies.

Driving high-impact low carbon intensity solutions that improve operational efficiency.

Develop plans for R&D and pilot projects, including reservoir simulation, reservoir engineering, design of surface facilities, well design, and manage operations.

Identification of different upstream opportunities under the circular carbon economy's framework and its 4R pillars: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Remove.

Help building state-of-the-art research capabilities and laboratories.

Generate far-reaching new ideas and contribute substantially to existing projects.

Develop/deploy new sustainable (CO2 emission reduction and H2 related) technologies in the oilfield.

Work closely with our proponents from Reservoir Management, Production Engineering, Facilities, Operations Engineering and other departments.

The 'go-to' person in all aspects of sustainability related to upstream operations.

Guide/mentor young professionals in their technical and professional development.
