Steer AI’s advanced AI-powered autonomy stack, developed by the Technology Innovation Institute, empowers the logistics and defense industries by turning industrial vehicles into autonomous powerhouses that can handle complex off-road missions, transforming operations and protecting organizations' most important assets: Their workforce.Role Overview We’re looking for a Senior Safety Engineer with a proven track record in the safety assurance of driverless ground vehicles—ideally within automotive, robotics, or industrial domains. In this role, you’ll be responsible for analyzing relevant regulatory frameworks, conducting safety assessments, and defining system-level safety requirements in collaboration with cross-functional technical teams.This is a hands-on, high-impact position focused on enabling the certification, validation, and operational deployment of fully autonomous ground vehicles.What You’ll Do Analyze and interpret safety regulations and standards applicable to Steer AI’s autonomous vehicle use cases.Lead hazard analysis and risk assessments (HARA) to identify safety-critical scenarios and assign integrity levels.Define technical safety requirements in collaboration with engineering teams to mitigate identified risks.Develop and document safety cases, test plans, and safety validation reports to support certification and regulatory compliance.Create test procedures and generate safety reports that demonstrate implementation of risk mitigation strategies.Work with external certification bodies (e.g., TÜV, RDW, IDIADA) to ensure alignment and prepare for formal assessments.Support the integration of safety practices into the overall system development lifecycle.Stay current on emerging safety standards and their application to autonomous vehicle technologies.What You Bring3-5 years of experience working in safety-critical systems, with a focus on autonomous or driverless ground vehicles.Hands-on experience in Functional Safety (ISO 26262, IEC 61508), SOTIF (ISO 21448), or machinery safety (ISO 3691-4, ISO 13849, ISO 13850).Experience conducting HARA, defining safety goals, and deriving technical safety requirements.Familiarity with certification processes and regulatory frameworks such as 2007/46/EC or 2006/42/EC.Prior interaction with or certification experience from bodies such as TÜV, RDW, or IDIADA is a strong plus.Strong analytical and systems thinking skills to interpret complex system behaviors and assess safety impacts.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly document and explain technical safety concepts.Proactive, self-driven, and pragmatic approach to problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.Education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Safety Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.What We Offer We offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and the opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the Autonomous Robotics industry.
