Act as a source of support and escalation where necessary, ensuring Heads of Year are empowered, and that strategic and operational alignment exists between across and between year groups.Through an effective monitoring & evaluation cycle, ensure the highest academic standards exist via lesson observations, book scrutiny, teaching & learning walks, marking, feedback and learning environment checks.Actively seek and promote student voice opportunities within Years 10-11, ensuring appropriate student representation with regard to school initiatives.Through frequent Head of Year meetings and other forms of communication, provide effective operational and strategic leadership to the Heads of Year 10-11, ensuring alignment with school strategy, initiatives and policy.Via collaboration with relevant Assistant Head Teachers, ensure the pastoral curriculum is effective, engaging, accessible, appropriately documented, reviewed and communicated to Heads of Year and Lead Teachers.In collaboration with senior leadership colleagues, Heads of Year, Heads of Department, effectively lead the Year 9-10 subject options process, in accordance with the prescribed SOP.Through liaison with Heads of Year and Heads of Department, ensure students in Years 10-11 achieve the highest possible outcomes with regard to academic attainment and progress. By way of delegation, ensure interventions are timely, coordinated, communicated and impactful.In conjunction with relevant Assistant Head Teachers and Heads of Year, coordinate the school's PSHE days, ensuring alignment with school strategy, initiatives and policy.Work with senior leadership colleagues and Heads of Year to ensure a well-informed and seamless transition for Key Stage 3 students into Key Stage 4. This includes the formal dissemination of information to all concerned parties.Work with and hold accountable the Heads of Year 10-11 to ensure the timely collection and analysis of student wellbeing data (including but not limited to PASS data). Ensure the results thereof are appropriately distributed, facilitating interventions as necessary, alongside referrals to external agencies as required.Set, model and ensure high standards of attendance, punctuality, behaviour and uniform are attained by students in Years 10-11, with alignment to relevant policy. Support and hold accountable the Heads of Year 10-11 respectively in this regard, being a source of guidance and escalation as necessary.Ensure assemblies promote the highest standards to students, disseminate pertinent information, celebrate successes, and contribute to a high-performing, respectful and inclusive culture, aligning with school values.Ensure House Coordinators are ambitious and effective in leading the House System and associated activities, providing guidance and support where necessary. Ensure appropriate oversight is maintained and that post holders are held accountable for provision and performance.By way of delegation, ensure students and families new to the school are well informed of pertinent information and class allocations, in accordance with the New Student Induction SOP.Other ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with the Secondary School Leadership Team to assist in the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of teaching staff. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness as necessary.Work closely with the pastoral teams to address the academic, social, and emotional needs of students. Implement intervention strategies and support mechanisms to ensure student well-being and success.Collaborate with the Secondary School Leadership Team and curriculum coordinators to review, develop, implement, and evaluate the KS4 curriculum. Ensure alignment with educational standards, college/university requirements, and the needs and interests of secondary students.Cultivate positive relationships with parents, guardians, and community stakeholders. Communicate effectively with families, solicit feedback, and facilitate opportunities for parental involvement in school activities, decision-making processes, and student support initiatives.Collaborate with colleagues within the Senior School and broader school community. Participate in professional development activities, contribute to the school's professional learning community, and share best practices to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.Contribute effectively to the school's strategic improvement planning, actively leading in areas pertinent to this job description, while supporting wider school development. Collaboratively lead and support as required with regard to school inspections, audits and accreditation.Encourage and support employees to use work hours efficiently and prioritise tasks effectively.Provide effective line management to academic / administrative departments as allocated within relevant and published organisational charts.Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)Effective leadership of Heads of Year and departmental / other leaders as assigned.Student progress and attainment as per external outcomes and internal data monitoring.Student attendance, punctuality, behaviour and uniform standards against expectations.Effective oversight of Year 9-10 subject options process.Extra-Curricular Activity provision and engagement of students.AdhocInitiate effort and energy beyond the typical workday, where tasks require additional commitment.Attend staff meetings, school events and serve on committees as required.Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers / supervisors.SkillsDegree in Education.Teaching experience and a proven track record of middle / senior school leadership.Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.Knowledge of instructional strategies, curriculum, assessment and pastoral practices.Ability to lead and inspire a team of educators.Career Level: Entry Level - Less than 2 years experience.
