Device Database Generation System (DBGS) Specialist This vacancy is for a Training Device DatabaseGeneration System Specialist/Junior Maintenance Engineer responsible for the creation, maintenance and managementof training device visual and synthetic databases. The databases form part ofthe Typhoon training devices (Full Mission Simulator, Unit Level Trainer andAvionic Part Task Trainer) and their associated sub systems. This role is combinedwith a Training Device Junior Maintenance Engineer working as part of a small,on-base team performing essential device maintenance activities required to meetcustomer KPI availability targets and to restore customer serviceability in theshortest timescale possible. The maintenance responsibility will apply to theTyphoon training devices (Full Mission Simulator, Unit Level Trainer andAvionic Part Task Trainer) and their associated sub systems.• The DBGS Specialist shall:• Create, update and manage TrainingDevice Visual and Synthetic database content in accordance with the TrainingDevice database generation schema and technical procedures.• Core activities will include thecreation, modification and management from within the database librarycovering the following content types:• Terrain databases including imagery,elevation and vector datasets.• Database cultural features includinggeospecifc features, geotypical features.• Complex airfield/airport modelsincluding visual and synthetic models.• Simulation models including visual andsynthetic models for Air, Land and Surface platforms, human characters andmore.• Aviation datasets includingnavigational aid and obstacle databases.• Data management in line with theTraining Device recommended data management process and operational directives.• Alignment to mission data scenariosfrom within the confines of the training device system.• Provide On the Job Training (OJT) andfamiliarisation to junior Database generation engineers as required.Andas part of the Training Device Maintainer Team shall:Performmaintenance in a safe manner in accordance with the documented maintenanceprocedures.Diagnose faults and perform remove and replace activities in the most timeefficient way possible.Update daily and scheduled maintenance log to record all maintenance activitiesperformed.Raise Fault Reports for all items requiring repair or replacement.Update the asset tracker to record the fitting of spares to devices and thelocation of items requiring repair or replenishment.Follow the repair and replenishment process in accordance with the relevantCONOPS documentation.Follow the tool control process described within the relevant CONOPSdocumentation.Follow the Query Answering and Fault Investigation process in accordance withthe relevant CONOPS documentation.Preparation ofPilot training devices for customer use and assistance with mission specificpreparationsRequirementsThecandidate would ideally have HNC/HND qualification and a background in syntheticdatabase generation including knowledge and experience in typical industrystandard database generation application tool sets such as ESRI Arc GIS,Bluemarble Global Mapper and Presagis Creator. Alternatively, experience withina creative or computer graphics software role such as game design, graphicdesign, etc. would be considered.Itis essential the applicant is proficient in general IT systems and isproficient in computer skills including application knowledge of the Microsoftsuite, image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and computer graphicssoftware such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya or Blender.
