Job Summary : The Cost Controller will oversee and manage all cost-related activities in the food and beverage manufacturing and catering industry. This role involves monitoring and analyzing costs to ensure profitability while maintaining quality standards. The Cost Controller will collaborate with various departments, including procurement, operations, finance, and kitchen teams, to implement cost-saving initiatives and optimize resource utilization without compromising service or product quality. Key Responsibilities :
- Cost Monitoring & Analysis : Monitor and analyze food, beverage, and operational costs for manufacturing and catering activities. Conduct regular cost reviews and identify variances between actual and budgeted costs, providing insights to management for corrective action. Track food and beverage costs for menu items and ensure profitability margins are maintained.
- Inventory Management : Oversee inventory control processes, including monitoring stock levels, ensuring accurate data entry, and minimizing wastage. Perform regular audits of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods inventory to ensure accurate tracking and minimize losses.
- Budgeting & Forecasting : Collaborate with finance and operations teams to create accurate and realistic budgets for raw materials, labor, and operational expenses. Provide cost forecasting reports for future projects, expansions, or product development initiatives.
- Purchasing and Supplier Management : Evaluate supplier contracts, comparing costs and quality to ensure the most cost-effective purchasing strategies. Work closely with procurement to negotiate better terms with suppliers and ensure compliance with procurement policies.
- Recipe and Portion Costing : Collaborate with culinary teams to establish accurate recipe costing and portion controls. Ensure that production recipes are followed, reducing wastage and optimizing ingredient usage.
- Waste Management : Implement waste control measures, monitor waste levels, and work with kitchen and operational teams to minimize food wastage. Review production and catering processes to reduce unnecessary costs and inefficiencies.
- Menu Pricing : Assist with pricing strategies for menus, ensuring that each item is priced to cover costs and maintain profitability. Regularly review menu offerings and make recommendations for price adjustments based on cost fluctuations.
- Reporting : Prepare regular cost reports, including daily, weekly, and monthly cost summaries, and present findings to senior management. Provide variance analysis reports, identifying areas for cost improvement and financial optimization.
- Compliance & Internal Controls : Ensure all cost control procedures comply with company policies, industry regulations, and accounting standards. Establish and maintain robust internal controls for financial accuracy and cost transparency.
- Team Collaboration : Work closely with the finance, procurement, operations, and kitchen teams to ensure seamless communication and alignment on cost control goals. Provide training and guidance to staff on cost management practices and inventory control.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., CMA, CIMA) is preferred.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in cost control, finance, or accounting, with at least 3 years in the food and beverage manufacturing or catering industry.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience with ERP systems and cost control software (e.g., Odoo, SAP, Oracle).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Cost Efficiency : Ability to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Analytical Thinking : Strong capacity to analyze financial data and translate it into actionable insights.
- Collaboration : Able to work with multiple departments and external vendors to achieve cost control objectives.
- Problem-Solving : Ability to identify areas of inefficiency and implement corrective measures.
- Attention to Detail : Ensures all financial and cost-related activities are conducted with precision.
