Associate Echocardiogram TechnologistBasic FunctionThe Associate Echocardiogram Technologist functions as a healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, serves as a medical imaging professional providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The activities are performed consistent with their education and training and in accordance with facility policies and procedures and applicable professional standards.Adult transthoracic 2D/3D EchocardiogramAdult transesophageal 2D/3D echocardiogramAdult stress echocardiogram (pharmacological and exercise).Adult contrast echocardiography (bubble saline, contrast agent)Adult Echo-guided pericardiocentesis.Adult Congenital Heart EchocardiogramPediatric Transthoracic echocardiogram (infants or toddlers)ScopeThe work will be in Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare, Non-Invasive Cardiology Lab. The work assignment will be in Dhahran or in the Districts to include Al Hasa or Ras Tanura based on the operational need. The work hours will be mandated to meet the operational needs as directed by the Cardiology Management.Principal ContactsDaily with the other services in the Cardiology Services or other technical staff and physicians. Ongoing with other services in JHAH or/and the other services' key personnel. Occasional public and community contact through communicating the policy changes, revisions, and/or introduction of new work rules.Principal DutiesPrepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.Assume responsibility for the safety of the patient during the sonographic examination.Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information.Ensure that the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of 'medical necessity.'Must be able to work with wide age range of patients from prenatal (fetal) to adultEvaluate any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient's inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures.Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand.Use proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer.Perform the diagnostic medical sonography examination ordered by the supervising physician in accordance with professional and facility protocols.Operates equipment in M-mode, 2D, 3D and spectral Doppler and color Doppler techniques. Searches for cardiac pathologyVisualizes various anatomical areas of heart. By way of Doppler and evaluates direction and speed of intracardiac blood flow.Apply independent, professional, ethical judgment, and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic sonography proceduresApply independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images.Good judgment in responding to STAT calls and appropriately prioritizes STAT orders.As necessary, acquire additional ultrasound imaging to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting.Identify and document any limitations to the sonography examination.Review examination images, synthesize examination results, and prepare the preliminary findings without discussing clinical findings of the exam with the patients.Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy and facility policies, and procedures.Principal Duties (cont'd)Required to participate in rotating call schedule with a 30 minute response time.Adhere to accepted professional and ethical standards.Provide patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for the Diagnostic Sonographer.EducationBachelor's Science degree in Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Technology or related Health science degree.ExperienceUp to 3 years of experience in an Adult echocardiography lab and Pediatric Echocardiography Lab are preferred.Certifications/Other requirements as applicableRegistered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) orCardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) - Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).OrMust be willing and eligible to seek Adult registry exam or pediatric, prefer both, within six months of hiring date.Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification for HealthCare workers.Strong written and verbal communication skillsWork as a team member within the Non-Invasive Cardiology Lab and all other departments.Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with difficult peopleTime management and organizational skillsAbility to physically transport echo machine throughout the in and out patients service.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management and peersCreate a Safe, effective Environment
