The Network Team Leadshall be the focal technical leader and resource for networkingrelated concerns. This role will keep abreast with new trends andtechnologies and suggest and help chart the best practices andimprovements for thecompany.Underthe general supervision of the Network Services Manager, performsadvanced and/or supervisory (senior-level) network work for theTexas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) IT Services Division,Infrastructure Services Branch. Work involves overseeing andperforming activities associated with the agency s computer networksystems and subsystems for data, voice, and video including LocalArea Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Internet VideoTeleconferencing (VTC), email, messaging, telephony/voice over IP(VOIP), a virtual private network (VPN), Network Security systems,Internet and intranet systems, end-user support, and other datanetworks; planning, designing, and integrating datatelecommunications networks; designing, installing, and monitoringnetworks; monitoring and analyzing existing hardware and software;developing policies and procedures; and evaluating potentialnetwork enhancements. May assign and/or supervise the work ofothers. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitudefor the use of initiative and independent judgment. Work outside ofregular hours may berequired.RequirementsOverseeor conducts major studies regarding system usage, makerecommendations for improvements, and determine network systemrequirements.Overseeperformance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance theperformance of the network resources. Responsible for the upgrade,configuration, reliable operation, and installation of Local AreaNetwork (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and Network Securitysystems.Overseeand provide guidance in troubleshooting and solving complex networkproblems related to incidents and problem calls, and in theprocessing of service requests and tasks.Providetechnical advice, assistance, and status reports to users ofvarying skill levels. Maintains system documentation to supportnetwork enhancements.Directactivities/projects to resolution including planning, organizing,analyzing, and coordinating tasks involving multiple resources bothinside and outside theagency.Reviewnetwork system plans for completeness and accuracy and plan andschedules network studies and system implementations.Coordinateprojects and initiatives that cross-functional agency systems,other state entities, and vendors that require planning andscheduling during project development and implementation. Serves asbackup to Network Manager.Determineoperational, technical, and support requirements for the location,installation, operation, and maintenance of data communications andagency networksystems.Monitorthe preparation and analysis of statistics on network utilizationand availability. Installs and upgrades network systems andsoftware. Coordinates all network changes with Network Manager andchange control.Performproject planning tasks involving project risk assessments,alternative implementation analyses, and project status trackingand reporting to Network Manager.Analyzeexisting network and system procedures for efficiency andeffectiveness. Monitor resolution of customer production issues inboth application and network environments.Escalatesecurity, system, or network outage issues to Network Manager asnecessary.Developpolicies and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of localarea networks or wide area network environments.Evaluatenetwork technologies for potential acquisition and directs theevaluation of various hardware and software resources forinformation system administration to identify strengths,weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency by recommendingsystems technology solutions for TxDMV enterprise-related hardwareand software standards. Determine operational, technical, and support requirementsfor the location, installation, operation, and maintenance of datacommunications and agency network systems. Monitor the preparationand analysis of statistics on network utilization and availability.Installs and upgrades network systems and software. Coordinates allnetwork changes with Network Manager and change control. Performproject planning tasks involving project risk assessments,alternative implementation analyses, and project status trackingand reporting to Network Manager. Analyze existing network andsystem procedures for efficiency and effectiveness. Monitorresolution of customer production issues in both application andnetwork environments. Escalate security, system, or network outageissues to Network Manager as necessary. Develop policies andprocedures designed to ensure the integrity of local area networksor wide area network environments. Evaluate network technologiesfor potential acquisition and directs the evaluation of varioushardware and software resources for information systemadministration to identify strengths, weaknesses, and potentialbenefits to the agency by recommending systems technology solutionsfor TxDMV enterprise-related hardware and software standards.Coordinate network hardware/software purchases. Attend work on aregular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leavepolicy and performs related work as assigned. Perform otherjob-related duties as assigned.
