Job Summary

  • This is an opportunity to be a key member of Bain’s expanding data integration capability. This position will be part of the Advanced Analytics Group (Bain’s team of data science, engineering, marketing science, operations research and primary research experts).
  • Partner with Bain consultants and clients at various levels to define data requirements and develop analytical solutions to answer critical business issues.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across the firm to develop best practices and products.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You will solve cutting-edge problems for a variety of industries as a software engineer manager specializing in Data Engineering. As a member of a diverse engineering team, you will participate in the full engineering life cycle which includes designing, developing, optimizing, and deploying new software solutions and infrastructure at the world’s largest companies.

Core Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Communicate effectively with analytics/data experts, business leaders, and executives inside and outside of Bain to assess opportunities and develop data-driven solutions for Bain clients across a variety of sectors.
  • Translate business objectives into data and analytics solutions using appropriate data engineering, analytics, visualization & dashboard applications.
  • Plan and facilitate data acquisition, integration and transformation of large and complex data sets from clients and third-party sources in preparation for analysis.
  • Design and implement scalable data architectures for cloud, hybrid, and on-premise infrastructure for large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • Develop end-to-end architectural components which include data models, data pipelines, stream processors, and APIs.
  • Provide hands-on expertise in implementing data lakes, data warehouses, and developing relational and dimensional data models.
  • Advocate best-in-class data governance principles for data cataloging, data ownership, and data security.
  • Support regional Data Scientists in extending and innovating our data and analytic capabilities.
  • Provide training, documentation, and other assistance to Bain’s consulting staff to support and expand the use of data integration and advanced analytics.
  • Support and train consulting teams in the use of data and visualization tools to generate and communicate insights.
  • Keep abreast of new and current data engineering and data science techniques.
  • Travel required – post pandemic.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Econometrics, or information sciences such as business analytics informatics.
  • 6+ years’ experience in data management, transformation, and orchestration of both structured and unstructured data.
  • Strong SQL expertise and data modeling (logical and physical data models) experience.
  • Strong experience with ETL/ELT design and implementations in the context of large and complex datasets.
  • Experience in developing data pipelines using tools such as Airflow, AWS Glue, and dbt.
  • Experience with developing data applications/cloud functions in Python or Java.
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, and GCP).
  • Strong understanding of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with building CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture.
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools a plus (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Qlikview, Tibco, MicroStrategy).
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of relational database and data warehousing technology (e.g. Snowflake, Oracle, AWS Redshift, AzureDB, DB2, Teradata, MS SQL Server, SAP BW, Vertica, Greenplum, SAP HANA, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills a must.
  • Experience with Hadoop and Spark ecosystem (e.g., HBase, Pig, Hive) a plus.
  • Experience with NoSQL database technologies (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, CouchDB) a plus.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g. R, SPSS, SAS, RapidMiner) a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and with multi-office/region teams.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to work independently.
