OVERVIEWPositionExecutive Director, Design & Architecture Position CodeReports toDirect ReportsDepartmentUrban Planning Division/Sector Role PurposeThe ideal candidate for this Executive Director role must possess a deep understanding of urban planning, architectural theory, and design innovation. They should have a proven track record of success in executive leadership roles, with the ability to guide and manage a team of professionals to execute projects that challenge thinking and stay at the forefront of the industry's best practices. The candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners. They should be able to develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the department's goals, and have experience representing their department at conferences, events, and other public forums. A passion for urban planning and a visionary leadership style are essential for success in this role.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIESKey ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Strategic Management:Lead the development, planning, and implementation of strategies, programs, decisions, assignments, and activities within NEOM's Urban Planning team.Apply the latest thinking, innovations, and technologies to shape urban environments in alignment with NEOM's unique style elements.Team Oversight and Project Delivery:Provide visionary leadership to the Urban Planning Team, fostering a creative and innovative environment.Direct and manage team members to successfully deliver high-profile urban planning projects, ensuring they meet world leading standards.Set clear project objectives and oversee project execution.Communication and Collaboration:Maintain continuous communication with the Chief Urban Planning Officer and Executive Directors, providing regular updates on ongoing architecture, style, and guardianship activities.Present insights, recommendations, and strategies for successful urban planning initiatives.Performance Management and Development:Set performance objectives for the Urban Planning Department, collaborating with team members to provide support, guidance, and resources for goal achievement.Analyze and recommend policies and procedures with strategic foresight.Innovation and Strategic Thinking:Propose innovative approaches to address complex urban planning problems and accelerate the achievement of goals.Stay up to date with evolving planning policies and regulations.Design Integration and Advocacy:Demonstrate a deep understanding of architectural theory and criticism, applying this knowledge to urban planning projects.Champion design innovation and integrate cutting-edge design practices into urban planning strategies, pushing the boundaries of conventional planning methods.Policy Compliance and Adjustment:Navigate and work within urban planning policies and regulations, staying informed about changes and trends to ensure compliance and make strategic adjustments.Curatorial Practices and Communication:Leverage curatorial practices to select, present, and interpret urban planning projects and concepts.Participate in curating exhibitions, publications, and public presentations related to urban planning.Visionary Idea Development:Apply strong conceptual thinking to develop and communicate visionary ideas for urban development that align with NEOM's style elements.BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge Skills and ExperienceExtensive experience (10+ years) in urban planning and architecture, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.Previous leadership roles in urban planning or architectural design, preferably at a directorial level.Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead a multidisciplinary team.
