The Emirates Literature Foundation is a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation that supports and nurtures a love of literature in the UAE and across the region through a programme of varied cultural initiatives. Established in 2013 by Royal Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the Foundation aims to foster a life-long love for all literature.

Role

The role involves supporting the organisation and delivery of all education initiatives including student competitions and initiatives, the School Librarian of the Year Award and engagement with schools in UAE and GCC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling queries about the education department’s initiatives to schools and within the foundation.
  • Handling logistics for the education initiatives in Arabic/English including attendance, correspondence, and delivery.
  • Issuing competition certificates to winning students and school personnel.
  • Support in managing prizes and trophies for the Arabic/English competitions and initiatives.
  • Support in managing attendance and logistics of the final rounds and ceremonies and student sessions at the LitFest.
  • Support in managing post-ceremony logistics.
  • Documentation of the coordination of education sessions, including blurbs, translations, and correspondence with schools.
  • Offer admin support for the Children’s/YA Reading Groups.
  • Coordinating additional potential events held for students within the department, such as Reading for Pleasure, author visits, ELF Reading Caravan, and pre-competitions physical and virtual workshops.
  • Support the wider organization in translations and Arabic/English correspondence where needed.
  • Offer admin support for the Children’s/YA Reading Groups by reading and suggesting books and organizing logistics and communications.
  • Maintaining, updating, and populating the Arabic/English database of schools and universities in the UAE and beyond, as well as sending bulk emails to school.
  • Responsible for the management and distribution of information among teachers and all school personnel.
  • Creating and editing the Arabic/English website page content to reflect all the necessary details to be communicated to the Education Department target audience.
  • Support with competition tasks such as quizzes for the Readers’ Cup (questionnaire and marking), sifting of stories for OUP/letters for RGS, schedule/coordination for PFA rounds and any other competition-related task.
  • Managing the education library, updating, and documenting books.
  • Coordinating the School Librarian of the Year Award nominations, judging process and the events ceremony including:
    • Coordinating the nominations process of SLOY, including:
      • Communicating with librarians and supporting them with their nominations
      • Collating and organising nomination entries
    • Support in creating a wider community of librarians and staff associated with libraries.
    • Ensuring that SLOY is more career and demographic orientated.
    • Handling queries about SLOY
    • Handling logistics for judging visits to schools, including attending and managing visits in various Emirates.

What We’re Looking For

General:
  • Ensure deadlines are set and met.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring effective communications with all Foundation team members, reporting on progress at regular meetings.
  • Ensure that any issues are raised as soon as possible and take the lead on working with the team to find the best resolution.
  • Contribute skills, expertise and time to cross-functional teams requiring your input.
  • The ability to work out direction and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word,Excel,Outlook, PowerPoint and strong database management skills are necessary.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic.
  • Tertiary qualification in literature, Education translation, or a related field.

Other Relevant Information

  • As an integral part of the ELF Team, this position participates fully in the production and execution of Foundation events. This requires flexibility to be available evenings and weekends and to work additional hours during peak hours, with compensatory hours in lieu of time worked provided.
  • Unless otherwise stated, all staff are subject to a six-month probationary period and annual performance review.
  • The position is based in the Emirates Literature Foundation office, located in Al Shindagha, Dubai.
  • Flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
