Roles and responsibilities The Resident Engineer will lead AECOM’s construction supervision projects and act as the client’s main point of contact advising on all engineering matters. Job Duties

  • Leads the delivery (time, cost, quality) of assigned package.
  • Supervise and manage the contractors to ensure the works are constructed as per specification and to established milestone dates.
  • Manage and direct the supervision team to undertake day to day inspections of the works.
  • Maintain a very high level of Safety awareness and ensure the contractor complies with his obligations.
  • Resolves site issues on site.
  • Presents progress and package issues to client team.
  • Negotiates changes to the scope of work with the Client and key subcontractors.
  • Responsible for following up on instructions & commitments associated with the project.
  • Establishes Project Execution Plan, Health & Safety Plan, Quality Control Plan and other documents.
  • Establishes the program requirements for all areas of the project and monitors site staff performance.
  • Plans, directs, supervises and controls the execution of all technical, fiscal and administrative functions of the project and the site team.
  • Assigns responsibility to key subordinates in their respective fields of expertise.
  • Provides input to performance reviews and develop plans for subordinates.
  • Establishes internal weekly meetings to review project status and formulate action items.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
  • Represent the company in all Client meetings.
  • Perform various engineering works and project/construction management for the project in Roads construction relevant.
  • Review and checking technical deliverables.
  • Review construction programme, specifications and cost estimates.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in relevant Engineering field (i.e. Civil, etc.).
  • Engineering charter ship will be advantageous.
  • Abu Dhabi Authorities’ understanding will be advantageous.
Experience
  • A minimum 20 year's post graduate experience in the design, site supervision of the projects with a broad infrastructure engineering background.
  • UAE experience required, especially in Dubai.
Desired candidate profile 1. Technical Expertise
  • Building Systems Knowledge: Proficient understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), and fire safety systems. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain these systems.
  • Energy Management: Expertise in energy-efficient systems and strategies, including energy audits, HVAC optimization, lighting controls, and the integration of renewable energy solutions.
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS): Familiarity with smart building technologies, automated control systems, and sensors that monitor and optimize energy use, lighting, heating, and cooling.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques for building systems to extend the life of equipment and minimize downtime.
2. Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Systems
  • HVAC Systems: Expertise in managing HVAC systems, including knowledge of air quality, temperature control, and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Electrical Systems: Ability to handle electrical wiring, lighting systems, and power distribution while ensuring safe operation and compliance with electrical codes.
  • Plumbing and Waste Systems: Understanding of plumbing systems, including water distribution, drainage, and waste systems. Ability to maintain and troubleshoot plumbing equipment.
  • Fire Safety Systems: Knowledge of fire alarm systems, sprinklers, and other fire safety equipment to ensure compliance with building codes and safety standards.
3. Building Operations and Maintenance
  • Facility Management: Overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of building systems and facilities. This includes managing work orders, coordinating contractors, and ensuring timely repairs and services.
  • Scheduled Inspections: Conducting routine inspections of building systems, equipment, and facilities to identify issues, monitor performance, and ensure proper operation.
  • Problem-Solving: Troubleshooting building issues, such as equipment failure, temperature control issues, electrical malfunctions, and plumbing problems, and finding effective solutions.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensuring that the building complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations. This includes fire safety, air quality standards, and waste management regulations.
4. Project Management
  • Project Coordination: Managing small-to-medium-scale projects, such as building upgrades, retrofits, and repairs. Coordinating with contractors, vendors, and building occupants to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Budget Management: Tracking maintenance costs, controlling operational budgets, and ensuring cost-effective building management practices.
  • Building Renovations and Upgrades: Coordinating with architects and contractors to manage the renovation, modification, or upgrade of building systems and infrastructure.
  • Vendor Management: Engaging and managing third-party vendors for specialized services, such as elevator maintenance, landscaping, or pest control, ensuring contracts are upheld and work is done according to standards.
5. Regulatory Knowledge and Compliance
  • Building Codes and Standards: Familiarity with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations, including safety, accessibility, and environmental standards.
  • Health and Safety Regulations: Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards and other workplace safety requirements to ensure the health and safety of building occupants.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Experience with sustainable building practices, including waste management, energy efficiency, water conservation, and renewable energy integration.
6. Communication and Collaboration
  • Team Collaboration: Working with a team of engineers, maintenance staff, and contractors to ensure smooth building operations and address issues effectively.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaising with building owners, tenants, and management to communicate maintenance schedules, building issues, and improvement plans.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment performance. This can involve using building management software or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Reporting: Providing regular reports on building operations, equipment status, and maintenance activities to management or building owners.
