Lab Engineer - College of Engineering and Physical Sciences Laboratory Engineer is pivotal in providing high-quality support for laboratory-based learning and research activities. This role involves managing day-to-day lab operations, maintaining, and overseeing equipment, coordinating research support facilities, training users, and ensuring compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations. The Laboratory Engineer actively promotes safe laboratory practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement to ensure laboratories deliver exceptional research services. · Proficiently set up, calibrate, and operate advanced 3D printers, 3D scanners, and material testing machines. · Proficient in FDM, SLS, DLP, and SLA printing technologies, as well as Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM). · Proficient in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360, and reverse engineering software like GeoMagic Design X. · Knowledge of slicing software (e.g., Cura, PrusaSlicer, Simplify3D) for preparing 3D models for printing. · Apply ASTM and ISO standards for testing metals and polymers, including tensile, compression, fatigue, creep, and bending tests. · Skill in interpreting test data to assess material suitability for applications and detect potential flaws or failure points. · Knowledge of optical and electron microscopy techniques for microstructural analysis advantage. Laboratory Safety · Lead initiatives and establish metrics to ensure laboratory compliance with Khalifa University's EHS policies. · Adhere to the University’s information security and confidentiality policies, promptly reporting any breaches or security risks. · Provide Standard Operating Procedure with risk assessment. · Understanding of environmental and regulatory compliance related to material testing and disposal of tested materials. Laboratory Operations · Manage day-to-day activities in the Additive Manufacturing and Material Testing labs, ensuring compliance, monitoring inventory, troubleshooting, and maintaining systems. · Develop and coordinate operational policies and procedures; address issues impacting lab services in collaboration with research staff. · Oversee routine and specialized technical procedures in assigned labs. · Support lab goal setting, enhancing quality, improving efficiency, and promoting sustainability and waste reduction. · Oversee multiple projects, ensuring timely completion and compliance with specifications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones. Technical Support · Ensure maximum operational availability of lab equipment, optimizing lab operations with efficient use of resources. · Monitor new equipment functionality to ensure compliance. · Coordinate the installation of new equipment and maintain an up-to-date inventory of lab equipment. Resource Management · Manage the lab work request booking system. · Assist in budgeting and recommending capital equipment expenditures, ensuring appropriate resource levels and compliance with organizational spending guidelines. · Supervise and manage inventory for lab supplies, maintenance parts, and other research-related items. · Evaluate technical requirements for equipment purchases based on vendor bids. · Ensure up-to-date information on the lab’s website, including training schedules, equipment availability, and descriptions.

Qualifications
