Job Description

Wood has an opportunity for a Principal Piping Engineer to join our team in Qatar on a long-term basis. This is a key role within the Wood Doha office and will report to the Lead Piping Engineer. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ensures Wood and Client Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures are followed and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all associated work.
  2. Produces and reviews piping deliverables with little input or guidance from the Lead Engineer, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the scope of work prior to issue. Such deliverables may include but are not limited to the following:
    1. Piping design basis
    2. Piping material specifications
    3. Piping line list
    4. Interface schedule
    5. Valve list
    6. Special items list
    7. Support schedule
    8. Wall thickness calculations
    9. Sizing calculations
    10. Stress analysis report
  3. Preparation and development of enquiry packages including specifications, datasheets, requests for quotation and technical bid evaluation relating to piping materials.
  4. Provide direction and guidance to designers in the production of the 3D model and piping drawings such as plot plans, line shoots, general arrangement drawings, isometrics, tie-in details, etc.
  5. Develop specification and prepare material requisitions for piping material.
  6. Supports development and provides piping input to P&IDs, equipment datasheets, civil and structural design.
  7. Review vendors’ quotations, prepare technical quotation evaluations, and recommend the final technically acceptable vendor, in conjunction with the Materials Management Department's commercial quotation evaluation.
  8. Technically approve Order Variation Summaries.
  9. Holds coordination meetings and engineering review meetings with vendors as required.
  10. Prepares and develops material take-off for the piping discipline.
  11. Assist in performing managerial tasks as requested, such as assigning tasks to engineers; planning and coordinating portions of the engineering work; preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets; attending project meetings; and developing lesser-experienced technical professionals.
  12. May serve as the Lead Engineer and/or discipline technical authority when required on small to medium complexity projects. In such capacity, will take responsibility and ownership for cost, schedule, resource allocation, and risk.
  13. Provide piping input to tenders and project estimates in the development of method statements, deliverable lists, manhours, CTRs, and risk.
