Job Summary and Purpose

Lead and conduct inspection of all hull matters during the construction of multiple LNG / LPG vessels at the shipbuilding site for the newbuilding programs. Ensure the site team attendance at all scheduled inspections, commissioning, tests, demonstrations, and trials in accordance with the shipbuilder's published schedule. Conduct formal inspections and tests that may be scheduled outside of the main shipbuilding facility, including vendor's shop tests. Hull matters include steel work, structural fitting, welding arrangements, hull outfit, hull systems, and other related items.

Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities:
  • Regular inspection and oversight of the shipbuilder's production of the vessel(s) under construction, focusing on all hull matters such as steel work, structural fitting, welding, hull outfit, hull systems, and other assigned items.
  • Ensure that the shipbuilder's efforts meet the expectations of shareholders and comply with contracts, specifications, approved plans, and memorandums of agreement.
  • Attend or appoint site staff for all scheduled inspections, commissioning, tests, demonstrations, and trials according to the shipbuilder's published schedule.
  • Propose design changes to improve vessel design, operation, and/or maintainability to the Site Lead for consideration and approval.
  • Coordinate with other Lead Inspectors as required.
  • Ensure adherence to all shareholder SHES policies and communicate areas of concern to the Safety Coordinator and Site Team Manager.
  • Coordinate schedule and work steps for vessel delivery and service initiation.

  • Adhere to all relevant SHEQ policies, procedures, instructions, and controls to provide a safe, secure, and environmentally responsible service.
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures:
  • Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, and procedures for controlled and consistent work execution.
Others:
  • Perform any other related duties as directed by the Site Team Manager to support shipbuilding initiatives and projects.

Qualifications, Experience and Job Skills

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and/or Marine Engineering, or Chief Engineer's License with at least five (5) years of LNG vessel experience.
Experience:
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in large vessel construction, including at least five (5) years of direct shipbuilding experience with LNG carriers or equivalent experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ship design and construction.
Job Specific Skills:
  • Good written and spoken English skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with individuals of various authority levels and cultural backgrounds.
  • Capable of hands-on supervision of locally hired inspectors.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills for complex ship construction issues.
  • Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software, especially Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to prepare professional status reports.
