DOH Licensed Primary EMT

A Primary EMT with a DOH license provides pre-hospital emergency medical care and transportation to patients. This role involves responding to emergency calls, assessing patients, administering appropriate medical treatment, and ensuring the safe transport of patients to healthcare facilities. The EMT works under the medical direction of a physician and follows established protocols and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Emergency Response:
    • Respond promptly to emergency calls as dispatched.
    • Arrive at the scene of emergencies quickly and safely.
    • Conduct scene size-up to determine the nature and extent of illness or injury.
  2. Patient Assessment and Care:
    • Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients to determine medical conditions.
    • Administer basic life support (BLS) procedures including CPR, AED usage, airway management, and bleeding control.
    • Provide appropriate pre-hospital emergency medical care following DOH protocols.
  3. Transportation:
    • Safely transport patients to healthcare facilities.
    • Communicate with medical staff during transport to ensure continuity of care.
    • Maintain patient safety and comfort during transport.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Complete accurate and detailed patient care reports (PCRs) and other required documentation.
    • Report observations and treatments provided to receiving medical staff.
  5. Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance:
    • Ensure that the ambulance and equipment are clean, stocked, and in good working order.
    • Conduct routine checks and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Participate in continuing education and training to maintain DOH certification and stay updated on medical practices.
    • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions as required by the employer.
  7. Compliance and Safety:
    • Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and protocols, including DOH standards.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow Health guidelines.
    • Follow safety procedures to minimize risk to patients, oneself, and others.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Certification:
    • Current and valid EMT certification from a recognized program [Internationally recognized certificate in Emergency Medical Services (minimum twelve (12) weeks practical training duration)]
    • Current DOH (Department of Health) license.
    • Valid BLS & a Trauma Certificate (PHTLS or ITLS)
  3. Experience: Prior experience as an EMT is preferred but not required.
  4. Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of basic life support (BLS) techniques.
    • Ability to work effectively in high-stress and emergency situations.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to follow protocols and medical guidelines accurately.
    • Good physical condition and stamina to perform job duties.

Working Conditions:

  1. Work is performed in various settings including on-site emergency scenes, inside ambulances, and healthcare facilities.
  2. Exposure to traffic accidents, and violence.
  3. Shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to lift and carry patients and medical equipment.
  2. Physical stamina to perform continuous strenuous activities.
  3. Capacity to work in varying weather conditions.
