Job Summary: The Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and equipment such as trucks, loaders, bulldozers, cranes, and other machinery. The role involves performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently in compliance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Perform scheduled maintenance and preventive servicing on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
    • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using specialized tools and diagnostic software.
    • Repair or replace faulty components such as engines, transmissions, braking systems, and steering mechanisms.
    • Perform welding and fabrication work as needed to repair structural damage.
  2. Inspections and Testing:
    • Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
    • Test repaired machinery to verify functionality and ensure it meets safety standards.
    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed.
  3. Troubleshooting:
    • Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions quickly and efficiently.
    • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to pinpoint issues and determine repair solutions.
  4. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and industry regulations while performing tasks.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, manufacturer guidelines, and environmental standards.
    • Report any safety hazards or equipment issues immediately to the supervisor.
  5. Inventory and Tools Management:
    • Ensure proper use, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
    • Monitor parts inventory and request replacements when necessary.
    • Maintain a clean and organized workspace to promote efficiency and safety.
  6. Emergency Repairs:
    • Respond to breakdowns in the field or on-site and perform emergency repairs as required.
    • Minimize downtime by effectively diagnosing and addressing issues under pressure.
Key Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Skilled in welding, fabrication, and using hand and power tools.
  • Problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy parts and equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Certification in Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics or Automotive Technology (preferred).
  • Proven experience (3+ years) working with heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and powertrains.
  • Valid driver’s license: a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and workplace safety practices.
