Scope of Position
The Assistant Laundry Manager will assist in overseeing daily laundry operations, ensuring the highest standards of service, quality, and efficiency. This role involves managing staff, maintaining inventory, coordinating with external vendors, and ensuring compliance with all safety and operational procedures. In the absence of the Laundry Manager, the Assistant Laundry Manager will assume full responsibility for the department.
Responsibilities:
General:
Communicate and enforce all corporate and hotel policies and procedures to laundry staff.
Support the Mandarin Oriental Downtown Dubai Human Resources Strategic Policy.
Participate actively in all learning and development activities.
Maintain confidentiality of all guests, colleague, and hotel information.
Managerial Duties:
Assist in managing daily linen inventories, ensuring accurate records and timely communication with external laundry providers.
Oversee the correct usage of laundry equipment, ensuring all machines are maintained according to the established maintenance schedules.
Assist in preparing the annual budget and monthly forecasts in collaboration with the Laundry Manager and Executive Housekeeper.
Monitor and control the usage of chemicals and detergents, ensuring optimal stock levels are maintained.
Implement and monitor training programs for all laundry staff to maintain high service standards.
Assist in conducting quarterly linen inventories and manage the linen discard process.
Suggest improvements in operations to save costs or increase efficiency.
Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate best practices into the department.
Departmental Duties:
Ensure that all guest laundry, dry cleaning, and uniform services meet Mandarin Oriental's standards.
Train laundry staff on the proper handling of fabrics and textiles to ensure the safe treatment of delicate garments.
Work closely with external laundry providers to ensure adequate stock levels and timely service.
Monitor the quality and consistency of linens and uniforms, taking immediate action to resolve any discrepancies.
Ensure proper packaging of guest laundry to maintain the hotel's luxury standards.
Customer Service:
Provide exceptional service to all guests, ensuring their laundry preferences are met.
Handle guest complaints professionally, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
Regularly meet with VIP guests to understand and fulfil their laundry needs.
Colleague Relations:
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment within the laundry team.
Provide leadership, motivation, and training to ensure the team meets service standards.
Ensure staff are groomed to Mandarin Oriental standards and represent the hotel professionally.
Administration Duties:
Maintain accurate records of all laundry operations, including inventory levels, chemical usage, and machine maintenance.
Assist in preparing reports for the Executive Housekeeper, tracking revenue, and identifying trends.
Ensure all laundry-related data is accurately documented and available for review.
Skills & Qualifications:
Education & Certificates
High School qualification or equivalent.
Degree or Higher National Diploma in Textiles, Fabric Care, or a related field is preferred.
Experience
At least 5 years of experience in laundry operations, with 2 years in a supervisory role within a luxury hotel or resort.
Hotel opening experience or renovation experience is an advantage.
Technical Skills
In-depth knowledge of laundry operations and textile care.
Minimal tailoring skills preferred for basic repairs and adjustments to uniforms.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and handle multiple tasks effectively.
Competent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office or equivalent software.
Physical capability to stand for extended periods and manage the demands of a laundry operation.
Communication and Language Skills
Ability to understand and implement effective communication strategies tailored to different individuals.
Capable of clear communication with colleagues and guests, ensuring mutual understanding and smooth operations.
Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
Verbal and written communication skills in other languages are preferred.
