EssentialResponsibilitiesRepresentativeDuties:Upholds Kaiser Permanente'sPolicies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities andapplicable state, federal and locallaws.Performs patient care functions, withinthe scope of competency, considering age related needs of thepatient as prescribed by physician/health care professional(s)following established protocols, policies andprocedures.Assist medical personnel withspecial procedures, minor surgical procedures and/or diagnosticexams.Assess and monitor patients conditionand notify physician/health care professional fordisposition.Prepare and administer medicationsas directed by physician order following establishedprotocols.Maintain equipment andsupplies.Identify and arrange for equipmentneeding repair.Apply principles of aseptictechnique and infection control as directed by the InfectionControl Manual.Monitor patient flow andassign/direct other ancillary personnel asneeded.Provide medical information andeducation to patients, following established protocols andguidelines.Document pertinent patientinformation, assessment and nursing procedures followingestablished protocols.Maintain patientconfidentiality.Perform other duties asdirected.Patient/CareProcedures:Explain purpose and process ofexaminations, tests and medical procedures to patients, followingestablished guidelines.Instruct patients ongeneral health and basic self careprocedures.Review, explain and clarifyphysician orders with patient.Instruct patientin use of home equipment.Administer patientfirst aid.Apply basic orthopedic devices, asordered by physician.Apply and removedressings.Execute treatments such as urinarycatheterization, bladder irrigations, suction procedures and throatirrigations.Follow standard infection controlprocedures.Administerenemas.Initiate emergency procedures(including basic CPR) and provide emergency patienttreatmentsLiftpatients.Monitor patient vitalsigns.Monitor patients forbleeding.Observe machinemonitors.Administer inhalationtherapy.Participate in development of nursingcare plans.Perform surgicalpreps.Prepare and position patients forprocedures.Prepare patients for physicalexaminations.Provide therapeutic care asordered by physician.Rinse and cleaninstruments and equipment.Sterilizeinstruments and equipment.Arrange forequipment repair and maintenance.Maintainclean work area.Monitor supply of oxygen andgas tanks.Complete laboratory, radiologyrequisitions and specialized test forms.Notifyappropriate personnel of abnormal lab testresults.Answer memberinquires.Observe patient condition forreactions during and after procedures.Removesutures following establishedprotocols.Respond to CodeBlues.Take and record patient vital signs,height, weight, etc.Obtain specimens frompatients (urine, stool, etc.).Performvenipuncture and finger sticks to obtain bloodsamples.Prepare specimens and specimens forlab analysis.Perform urine tests (tablet ordipstick.)Perform vision screening usingSnellen chart.Perform routine diagnostictests, following established protocols.Performskin tests.Assist as member of surgicalteam.Assist physicians with endotrachaelintubations.Assists physician in obtainingtissue specimens and biopsies.Assist withproctological procedures (i.e.Sigmoidoscopies.)Restrain or support patientsduring procedures.Perform EKGs(electrocardiograms.)Assist patients withambulation and exercises, following establishedprotocolsAdminister topical or aerosolmedication as ordered.Administer medicationsas prescribed, within scope ofpractice.Transportation:Transportpatients to/from designated areas.Routespecimens to laboratory.Transport laboratoryspecimens, medical records, laboratory supplies andmaterials.Transport office supplies andmaterials, patient related supplies andmaterials.Transport equipment, and procedurestrays.Administrative/Clerical/RecordKeeping:Request charts/medicalrecords.Schedule, cancel and reschedulepatient appointments.Initiate follow upappointments with patients.Check inpatients/members.Prepare outgoingmail.Locate personnel by paging system orbeeper.Provide patient information to familymembers, following patient confidentialityguidelines.Record and sendFaxs.Screen patient calls and take messagesfor providers.Maintain departmentlogs.Maintain and update usermanuals.Monitor and maintain protocolmanuals.Respond to requests forinformation.Order medical supplies andequipment.Receive, store and distributematerials and supplies.Replenishlinen.Adjust work schedules and/or reassignpersonnel as directed.Serve as resource tocoworkers by answering procedure questions and assisting in problemsolving.
