Your new role, what's involved

Material Selection: Collaborate with design engineers to select appropriate materials for specific applications based on performance requirements, cost considerations, and environmental factors.
Material Characterization: Conduct material testing and analysis, including mechanical testing, chemical analysis, and microscopy, to assess material properties and behavior.
Materials Development: Research, develop, and test new materials or processes to improve performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
Process Optimization: Optimize manufacturing processes to enhance material properties, reduce defects, and improve production efficiency.
Quality Assurance: Develop and implement quality control measures to ensure the consistency and reliability of materials used in production.
Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers to evaluate material specifications, resolve quality issues, and identify opportunities for innovation and cost savings.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that materials and processes comply with relevant regulatory standards, industry specifications, and safety requirements.
Problem Solving: Investigate material-related problems or failures, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of material specifications, test results, and process parameters. Prepare reports and documentation to communicate findings to stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction through material substitution, process optimization, and innovation.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

Bachelor's degree in materials science, metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of [15+] years of experience in materials engineering or a related field, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of materials science principles, including material properties, structure-property relationships, and processing techniques.
Experience with material testing and characterization techniques, such as tensile testing, hardness testing, microscopy, and spectroscopy.
Proficiency in engineering software tools for materials analysis and simulation (e.g., MATLAB, Finite Element Analysis).
Familiarity with manufacturing processes and technologies, such as casting, forging, welding, and additive manufacturing.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in all aspects of materials engineering.
Professional certification (e.g., Certified Materials & Metallurgical Engineer) is desirable.
Willingness to travel occasionally for supplier visits, conferences, or training opportunities.
