Purchasing officers evaluate suppliers beforemaking purchasing decisions. This involves traveling to thesupplier's location and examining their products, as wellas interviewing the decision makers on the supplier'steam to learn why their product is the best choice. Purchasingofficers also compare suppliers using cost-benefitanalysis.Purchasing officers act on behalf oftheir employer in the negotiation process. They must know theiremployer's budget thoroughly to negotiate. They must alsohave a deep understanding of their employer's needs andhow the supplier in question meets thoseneeds.
