DescriptionQatarEnergy has an in-house Senior Counsel opening for a proactive and business-focused lawyer with at least 10 years' experience. Headquartered in Qatar, the successful candidate will join the Corporate Affairs legal team and work on a wide range of legal matters to support and enable QatarEnergy's expanding global business and affairs. QatarEnergy's vision provides opportunities to gain an unrivalled experience in corporate and finance transactions and key commercial and legal trends and issues facing global businesses.The Corporate Affairs team acts as a strategic business partner primarily supporting QatarEnergy's finance / tax business units and advising the corporation on corporate law and financing structuring/restructuring as the group expands its local and international activities, presence and investments. As Senior Counsel, you will be primarily responsible for advising on corporate/finance transactions and structuring for the corporation and its group, locally and globally. Experience of corporate / financing structures for global investments in the Americas and Africa is helpful but not essential as we are supported by regional legal experts.The Corporate Affairs is a friendly and tight-knit team who value collaboration. Therefore, a willingness to support the broader legal work of the team is a must. This could include general commercial agreements and advice to business units on IT, cybersecurity and intellectual property matters, although we have legal specialists in these fields who will be available to share knowledge and experience.The role would suit a corporate / finance lawyer looking to make the transition from private practice to in-house or an experienced in-house corporate / commercial senior counsel. The candidate does not need to have an intimate knowledge of the energy sector as the Legal Department has energy-sector legal specialists with whom the candidate would work closely and collaboratively.RequirementsAt least 10 years of legal practice experience (common law or civil jurisdiction), with a good working knowledge of corporate / commercial / contract lawCandidates from either private practice or in-house sectors will be considered equallyProven track record to work independently on complex legal mattersSuperior analytical skillsExcellent command of spoken and written EnglishEducationJuris Doctorate. Bachelor of Law (LLB) or equivalent from recognized University
