About the Role We are seeking a skilled Bird Care Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our bird collection, including their nutrition, environment, and behavior.Key Responsibilities Perform daily husbandry tasks, including feeding, watering, and cleaning the birds' quarters.Set up and maintain aviaries, taking into account both the birds' needs and those of our visitors.Monitor the birds' health, detect any signs of illness or injury, and report these to our supervisor or veterinary team.Transport birds between enclosures as needed.Assist with hand-raising of birds and participate in enrichment programs.Engage with visitors, providing information about our bird species and zoo operations.Complete daily records and maintain accurate data on food intake and other relevant metrics.Maintain safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both animals and visitors.Contribute to conservation efforts and participate in educational programs.Oversee interns and volunteers, providing guidance and support as needed.Requirements and Qualifications A high school diploma in zoology or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience may be considered.At least one year of paid animal care experience at a controlled environment facility is required.Excellent communication skills, enthusiasm for public interaction, and willingness to give talks to visitors and groups.Familiarity with operant conditioning and enrichment techniques.Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting our mission and values.Dependability, flexibility, and willingness to work weekends and holidays.Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects repeatedly.Proficiency in English is essential, with Arabic being a plus.Willingness to work with diverse cultures and nationalities.Benefits and Opportunities Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.The chance to work with a diverse range of bird species and contribute to conservation efforts.A supportive and collaborative team environment.About Our Team We value teamwork, creativity, and a commitment to excellence.
