Direct message the job poster from Spinnaker We are working with apremier LNG shipping and maritime services company, who are seeking an experienced legal executive to join them as General Counsel. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Doha, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer . The successful candidate will lead the Legal and Insurance Division, overseeing all legal, compliance, and insurance-related matters across the company’s operations, including its strategic joint ventures. This role is responsible for setting the legal and insurance strategy. You will act as the principal legal advisor to the CEO and executive management, providing guidance on a wide range of issues including commercial transactions, corporate governance, maritime law, insurance coverage, mergers and acquisitions, and cross-border regulatory compliance. A key component of the role is advising on core maritime legal matters, including fleet operations, chartering, international shipping regulations, and maritime risk. The successful candidate will manage a team of legal and insurance professionals, including a Senior Legal Counsel, Associate Legal Counsel, Insurance Manager, and Legal & Insurance Secretary. The role includes oversight of litigation and arbitration proceedings, coordination with external counsel, and supervision of legal research and Qatari law compliance. The position also requires participation in internal committees, such as Tender Committee and Ethics Committee, and active engagement with external stakeholders including joint venture partners, regulators, and international law firms. To qualify, you must have at least15 years of legal experience , with a minimum of8–10 years in a senior legal leadership role , ideally within the maritime, shipping, or energy sectors. Experience in a top-tier maritime law firm and/or in-house role in an international setting is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of shipping law, international trade law, corporate and commercial legal frameworks, and insurance risk management. Proven experience in leading high-performing legal teams, handling complex international transactions, and advising at board or C-suite level is also required.
