Position The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice for the Mechanical Engineering Program. This role supports the newly established Engineering Design Concentration within the Mechanical Engineering Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching design-related courses, including capstone design courses, curriculum development, student mentorship, attracting industry-sponsored student design projects, and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations within the program and beyond. Instructional faculty are also expected to develop and implement innovative educational practices to prepare the engineering leaders of tomorrow. Job Role Description Teach and develop core and elective courses within the Engineering Design Concentration, including Advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Design Optimization, Application of Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Design, Design for Smart Systems, Product Development and Innovation, Design for Sustainability and Resilience, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) and Bio-inspired Design. Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on, project-based learning experiences. Work closely with the Industry to identify suitable student design projects. Supervise senior design projects and student capstone teams, guiding them through the ideation, prototyping, and testing phases. Contribute to curriculum development, integrating modern design tools and aligning courses with industry needs. Collaborate with colleagues from other disciplines for interdisciplinary projects and initiatives. Engage in student mentorship, supporting academic growth, research involvement, and professional development. Participate in departmental activities and committees to advance the program's mission. Minimum Qualifications Ph D in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with specialization in design, product development, CAD, or similar areas. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. Solid Works, CATIA, Auto CAD) and simulation tools (FEA, CFD). Demonstrated ability to teach mechanical design, CAD, product development, and related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Demonstrated experience with active learning strategies, including project-based learning, flipped classrooms, and hands-on labs. Proven track record in developing curricula that integrate modern technologies and foster critical thinking. Experience supervising capstone projects and collaborating with industry on design challenges. Minimum of 2 years of related experience at a recognized university.
