The Public Affairs Manager will play a leading role in advocating the benefits of biopolymer materials to key legislative and regulatory bodies in the region. Biopolymers play a vital role in the transition to a waste-free and circular society. The Public Affairs Manager will be responsible for understanding and guiding current and future regulations to help society fully harness the benefits of biopolymers, while supporting their successful adoption across the Middle East. As a member of the marketing team, the Public Affairs Manager will focus on building and maintaining relationships with key government officials and other influential stakeholders to foster collaboration and drive positive change in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and understand current and future legislation and other regulatory requirements that impact plastics usage.
- A. Understand the current Single Use Plastics regulations that are being implemented in UAE and other GCC countries.
- B. Understand EPR, Waste Management, Recycling policies, organic waste collection ambitions, and other initiatives that drive a more sustainable society.
- Develop common Emirates Biotech positions on the various legislative dossiers and represent these positions at all relevant occasions. Liaise with other interest groups, trade associations, and NGOs to come to common positions that support our positions.
- Understand the benefits biopolymers bring for society. Create visibility to both the ‘begin-of-life’ benefits of PLA, including low carbon footprint and biobased characteristics. Create visibility for PLA ‘end of life’ benefits including generating positive messaging points around composting and biodegradation of PLA biopolymers.
Qualifications and Experience
- Thorough understanding of the legislative process in the UAE and other GCC countries.
- Technical competence to understand and analyze the wide-ranging issues affecting the industry and their implications.
- Ability to communicate and negotiate professionally with a wide range of contacts.
- Excellent interpersonal as well as team player skills.
- Outstanding English and Arabic language skills are essential.
- Entrepreneurial and agile mindset; ability to work in a fast-growing company where priorities could shift and ‘the way we do things’ still needs to be developed.
- Understanding and affinity with the Arab culture.
- Passion for sustainability and making this planet a better place for future generations.
