Roles and responsibilities

To carry out maintenance duties offshore as directed by the Crane Supervisor.
Responsible for effectively carrying out scheduled and un-scheduled planned maintenance routines of all offshore pedestal cranes, overhead gantry cranes, monorail hoists, life raft davits, winches, and fixed lifting equipment.
Performance of site repair work (as deemed practical and within the competency) on all pedestal cranes, gantry cranes, monorail hoists, life raft davits, and winches arising from Planned Maintenance Inspections and Crane Operator Maintainer comments.
In addition to crane maintenance duties, operate overhead cranes under the direction of nominated site personnel and in accordance with authorized operators' instructions manual and site operating procedures.
When working overhead cranes, carry out daily routine checks on the crane in accordance with maintenance procedures and pre-start checklist.
Inspect the job site to ensure compliance with safe practices and procedures. Maintain quality of safety in the crane group and participate in the site safety reviews i.e. Near Miss Reporting/STOP cards.
Responsible for giving a detailed report of any crane incidents to the Crane Supervisor.
Responsible for issuing a daily report to the crane supervisor of any maintenance, corrective maintenance, or troubleshooting carried out.
Responsible for completing maintenance job plans and submission to crane supervisor with details of any parts required for replacement.

Requirements Essential:

Be time-served mechanical technicians/hydraulic technicians/electrical technicians.
Have a minimum of 5 years offshore experience.
Have proven experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical equipment.

Behaviors and Personal Qualities

Ability to work and react under pressure and tight deadlines.

Desired candidate profile

Mechanical Maintenance and Inspections :
- Perform routine mechanical inspections and preventive maintenance on cranes to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Inspect crane components like gears, motors, hydraulic systems, brakes, and other mechanical parts for wear and tear, corrosion, or damage.
- Identify any mechanical faults or potential issues that could affect the crane's performance and safety.
Troubleshooting and Repairs :
- Diagnose mechanical problems with cranes and other lifting equipment, such as issues with hoisting mechanisms, drive systems, or hydraulic components.
- Conduct repairs, including replacing or refurbishing mechanical parts like bearings, gears, pulleys, cables, and lifting components.
- Perform troubleshooting on mechanical systems to identify faults and make necessary adjustments to restore equipment to full working order.
System Upgrades and Modifications :
- Assist with the installation and upgrading of mechanical systems, including new gearboxes, motors, or hydraulic pumps.
- Modify mechanical systems to improve efficiency, safety, or to meet updated industry standards and regulations.
Safety Checks and Compliance :
- Ensure all mechanical systems are compliant with safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, ANSI, or ISO).
- Verify that cranes are mechanically safe for use before operation, especially after maintenance or repair.
- Report any mechanical issues that could pose a safety hazard and ensure timely repairs or replacements.
Lubrication and Adjustments :
- Perform regular lubrication of moving mechanical parts to minimize friction and prevent excessive wear.
- Adjust crane systems, such as the braking system or lifting mechanisms, to ensure they operate within specified tolerances.
Documentation and Reporting :
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs, including parts replaced and labor hours worked.
- Prepare and submit maintenance reports to supervisors or management to keep them informed of the condition of cranes and equipment.
- Track equipment performance and recommend actions for continuous improvement.
Emergency Maintenance and Repairs :
- Respond quickly to crane breakdowns or mechanical failures, especially in time-sensitive or high-risk environments.
- Work in coordination with operators and supervisors to quickly identify problems and minimize downtime.
Training and Guidance :
- Provide training to operators and other maintenance personnel on basic crane maintenance, mechanical troubleshooting, and safety procedures.
- Ensure that staff is trained to properly identify mechanical issues and handle equipment safely.
