The Dubai campus is seeking toappoint an Assistant Professor in Learning and Teaching Enhancement : anAcademic Development Coordinator (Grade 8). The postholder will play a key rolein shaping the ambition of the new Learning and Teaching Academy and thedelivery of the Universitys strategic learning & teaching objectives acrossour global community. The successful appointee will beexpected to contribute across the breadth of the Learning and Teaching Academysenhancement and academic development activity as well as offering specialistexpertise in line with their skills and competences. Working across the wholeUniversity, the appointee will be a confident communicator and teacher, adeptat harnessing the opportunities offered by blended and digital learning to workin a truly global context. The Academic Development Coordinator will work tosupport the professional development of academic staff and PhD students atHeriot-Watt University Dubai in partnership with and under the guidance ofsenior colleagues from Heriot-Watts Centre for Academic Leadership &Development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with academiccolleagues to promote student engagement, retention, progression and transitionby facilitating peer-supported and student centered Learning and Teachingdevelopment provision. Key duties and responsibilities Learning and Teaching Design, develop and deliver high quality, innovative,and effective learning opportunities in the area of Higher Educationpedagogy and practice. This includes contributing to the development,teaching and leadership of the PGCILT and LEADS programmes across all ourcampuses, making effective use of blended and online pedagogies. Develop and support pathways to HEA Fellowship at alllevels, including designing Masterclasses and programmes of support forsenior staff. Design and deliver flexible, targeted learning andteaching CPD provision in line with School and University strategicpriorities. These will be delivered globally, making use of a range oftechnologies and delivery models to ensure parity of opportunity for staffat all campuses. Contribute specialist learning and teaching expertiseand support to LTA, School, University & Campus based learning andteaching initiatives. Contribute to the development and effective dissemination ofthe LTAs suite of learning and teaching resources, good practice guides andToolkits. Scholarship and Research Engage in pedagogical research and scholarship linkedwith institutional priorities for learning and teaching, includingdissemination through appropriate routes. Design and deliver initiatives to support others toundertake research and scholarship in learning and teaching. Seek opportunities for external funding of research,scholarship, and learning and teaching development activity, in line withLTA and University priorities. Engage in horizon-scanning research, scholarship andnetworking to ensure Heriot-Watts approach to learning and teaching ispioneering, globally relevant and locally effective. Strategic Projects and EnhancementInitiatives Contribute to the programme of work of the Learning andTeaching Academy in line with the Learning and Teaching Strategy2018-25 and the Universitys Shaping Tomorrow Together strategy. Contribute to : and lead as appropriate - learning and teachingprojects enhancement initiatives, in line with LTA, and Universitystrategic priorities and context-specific need. This may include, forexample, engagement with specific national learning enhancementinitiatives but will fundamentally be to ensure any CAA/MoHE needs aremet. Contribute to the establishment of an InspiringLearning innovation hub. Contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and continuedenhancement of the Learning and Teaching Academy s programme of work. Contribute to the global delivery of events and activitiesto support the sharing of good practice. Provide pedagogic expertise and support to colleaguesfrom a range of disciplines on pedagogical and practical aspects ofimplementing University learning and teaching priorities. Support the Director of the LTA & the Deputy VicePrincipal (Dubai) and work closely with colleagues across the Academy andwider University to ensure the delivery of strategic objectives inlearning and teaching. Manage projects and related resource (staff and budget), asappropriate. Networks, Partnerships andCommunication Participate as a member of appropriate internal andexternal committees, networks and working groups in the area of learning,teaching and academic practice as required; Build and support internal and external networks tosupport the development and delivery of LTA priorities. Liaise with and support the Students Association in student-led development activity relatedto learning and teaching. Represent the Learning and Teaching Academy and theUniversity effectively in institutional, national and internationalcontexts. Contribute to the resource planning of the LTA. The postholder will also be expected to write reports andgive presentations on aspects of Learning & Teaching support and itsimplementation of the University s Learning and Teaching strategy for internal andexternal dissemination The postholder will be expected to communicate with awide range of academic staff and research students from different academicfields and cultural backgrounds/nationalities. The postholder will be required to liaise and network with arange of stakeholders (e.g. Deputy Vice-Principal Dubai) to ensure that theactivities meet the requirements of the Learning & Teaching Strategy andeffectively support staff and students in all Schools at Heriot-Watt UniversityDubai. Please note that this jobdescription is not exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to undertakeother relevant duties commensurate with the grading of the post. Activities maybe subject to amendment over time as the role develops and/or priorities andrequirements evolve. A flexible working schedule may be required to meet allkey duties and responsibilities. Education, qualifications andexperience Fellowship of HEA (or evidence of nearing submission) Educated to a Higher Degree (or demonstrable equivalentexperience) Significant knowledge and experience of the highereducation sector including an extensive understanding of pedagogy andpractice in HE and the professional standards relevant to learning andteaching, and any CAA/MoHE in the UAE requirements. Background withCAA/MoHE in the UAE is essential Substantial experience of teaching and supportingstudent learning in higher education, including in blended and onlinecontexts. Experience of design and delivery of staff CPD andlearning enhancement events in an HE context. An ability to model inspiring practices in learning andteaching to staff and students across the University. Demonstrable experience of developing effectivepartnerships and collaborations with staff and student stakeholders tosupport learning and teaching enhancement. Experience of development, delivery and evaluation oflearning enhancement projects. A clear personal scholarship / research focus alignedto the interests of the Learning and Teaching Academy. Excellent oral and written communication skills andability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences in writingand in person. Strong team player, committed to collegial approach toachieving strategic goals. Excellent time and workload management skills. Evidence of effective engagement in higher education /learning and teaching networks at a national or international level. A record of impactful dissemination of scholarship andresearch in learning and teaching. Evidence of gaining and managing funding for educationdevelopment, research or scholarship projects. Evidence of successful working across a multi-location ormulti-national context. Heriot-Watt University Dubai is CAALicensed; therefore, successful candidates will need to provide terminaldegrees attested from a UAE institution accredited by CAA. Degrees which arenot from a UAE Institution will need to have MoE equivalency. The successfulcandidate is responsible for getting their degree attestations done.
