Job Summary : The Cath Lab Technician is responsible for assisting cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. This role involves preparing patients, operating specialized equipment, and ensuring the safety and comfort of patients throughout the procedure. Key Responsibilities : 1. Patient Preparation
- Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization, including explaining the procedure, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
- Assist in positioning and preparing patients with appropriate sterile draping.
- Administer or assist with sedatives and monitor vital signs pre- and post-procedure.
- Operate and maintain specialized cath lab equipment such as fluoroscopes, hemodynamic monitors, and intravascular ultrasound.
- Assist the cardiologist during diagnostic and interventional procedures, such as angiograms, angioplasties, stent placements, and pacemaker insertions.
- Monitor and record patient data during procedures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
- Ensure all cath lab equipment is functioning properly and calibrated as needed.
- Sterilize and prepare instruments and equipment for procedures.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate maintenance when required.
- Adhere to infection control, radiation safety, and other health regulations to ensure patient and team safety.
- Maintain thorough documentation of procedures, equipment use, and patient data in compliance with medical standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to hospital policies.
- Assist with patient recovery and ensure a smooth transition to the recovery room or appropriate unit.
- Provide instructions to patients and families on post-procedure care and follow-up.
- Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Proficient in operating medical imaging and monitoring equipment.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and remain calm during emergencies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, or a related field.
- Certification as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or equivalent is preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in a cardiac catheterization lab or a similar clinical setting is preferred.
- Exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, and bodily fluids.
- Physically demanding with extended periods of standing and the need for manual dexterity.
- May require on-call hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
