Careers in Bongikosi Educare Centre

Introduction

What started out as a mere vision to help empower the underprivileged people of South Africa, ended in a beautiful tale. A letter signed on a cigarette box was the start of what is now considered one of the most successful educare centres in Khayelitsha. In July 1988, Bonginkosi Educare opened its doors to an initial eight children aged 3 years and older.

The school gained the trust of locals in Khayelitsha and soon grew to include infants and toddlers. To-date, more than 10, 000 children have received care through this school.

What we do

Bonginkosi has over 300 children in our care, many of which are new born babies and children who are HIV positive or AIDS orphans. The care and nutrition these children receive allows them to flourish at school as they are adequately prepared for their formal schooling careers. Feedback from graduated scholars is often received by the educare, proving Bonginkosi's efforts are not only worthwhile, but they create brighter futures.

Meals for the Kids

Each day all scholars receive two meals and two snacks. This is often the only food some of the less fortunate children receive for the day.
