Position Number: 0064162 Location: Parkville Role type: Full-time; Continuing (tenure track) Faculty: Science Department/School: School of BioSciences Salary: Level of appointment is subject to qualification and experience About the Role The School of BioSciences seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative academic with expertise in quantitative aspects of biotechnology. This Education and Research-focused role reports to the Director of Biotechnology Programs, Greg Kubik, and offers the opportunity to develop an independent research program with synergies across the School’s strengths in zoology, plant science, entomology, and microbial biology. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in emerging quantitative tools within the broad field of biotechnology. Your responsibilities will include:

• Conduct a program of research that contributes to the biotechnology discipline in the School of BioSciences.
• Publish research findings in international refereed journals and present results at seminars, conferences, and meetings.
• Actively contribute to teaching, including the development and delivery of taught materials, marking, and coordination of subjects.
• Actively participate at School and/or Faculty meetings and play a leadership role in planning activities or committee work.
• Conduct research that contributes to the School’s strategic research priorities.

Who We Are Looking For You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to manage projects and meet deadlines effectively. You will have a strong application-driven mindset focused on advancing impactful knowledge, along with excellent oral and written communication skills in English. You will also have:

• PhD in an aspect of synthetic biology, bioinformatics, quantitative modelling, genomics or a related field of biology.
• Outstanding track record, relative to opportunity, in conducting research and publishing in top peer-reviewed academic journals.
• Experience teaching as a teaching assistant/demonstrator/tutor of any biotechnology and/or quantitative biology subjects at the tertiary level (Level B) or experience developing teaching materials and demonstrating as a lecturer (Level C).
• Track record of successfully mentoring postgraduate research students as a co-supervisor (Level B) or as a primary supervisor (Level C).
• Obtained research funding through competitive student or ECR schemes from internal university sources or small external funding programs (Level B) or as a CI on external granting schemes or industry contracts (Level C).
• Proven ability to work effectively as part of collaborative research and teaching teams.
• Experience conducting research in collaboration with industry partners.
