Learning Systems Developer at Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington

Join Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions on a 12 month fixed-term, full-time contract. Are you interested in a fixed-term, full-time role as a Learning Systems Developer? Would you like to work in the ever-growing education industry by developing high quality IT solutions? Do you have experience in creating, managing and improving application support processes and application lifecycles? Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead technical workstreams and be the point of subject matter expertise for University learning and teaching projects and initiatives.
  • Provide functional and technical consultation, investigation and analysis of requirements and issues.
  • Consult on all aspects of relevant technologies and develop towards being the subject matter expert (SME) in our Digital Learning environment.
  • Develop, maintain, troubleshoot and provide high quality solutions in multi-platform IT environments within an Agile framework (e.g., scrum, Kanban).
  • Undertake unit and peer testing including the creation of testing scripts and/or facilities.
  • Maintain and develop technical currency by actively participating in user group, vendor and technology forums.
  • Contribute to Digital Solutions projects in accordance with the project methodology guidelines as outlined by the Digital Solutions Programme Management Office.
  • Collaborate with CAD (Centre of Academic Development) and other stakeholders to investigate, design and implement appropriate learning analytics infrastructure and applications.
  • Work closely with the Learning System Specialist and Application Support Specialist to ensure consistency of service to the University.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following:
  • Proven experience in application and user experience development within modern cloud-based Learning Management Systems and associated learning tools.
  • Proven experience in managing application development frameworks and common integration standards, with preferred experience managing API presentation, LTI, SQL query, PowerBI and Caliper.
  • Proven experience in management and/or development of enterprise-wide IT application environments, and critical, strategic Digital infrastructure.
  • Experience in creating, managing and improving application support processes and application lifecycles.
  • Proven experience in development, testing and release processes, including version management and release via Git.
  • Strong interest in modern/digital online modes of delivery and instructional design methodologies.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with the ability to express complex matters in a concise and easily understandable manner to different target groups.
  • An understanding of Agile project methodology.
Additionally, any of the following skills would be a bonus:
  • Experience in the use of digital technologies for teaching and learning, preferably in the tertiary sector.
  • Experience in, and a good understanding of, academic processes and workloads.
  • Experience with Agile project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of assistive and accessible technologies, standards and frameworks.
