Directs, assigns, and delegates hospital nursing activities in assigned units under the leadership of the Chief Nursing Officer. Represents the Chief Nursing Officer in the entire scope of the Chief Nursing Officer's responsibilities in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures incidents/complaints are investigated, completed and per the Hospital's Policies and Procedures.
  • Participates in formulating, revising and reviewing policies and procedures.
  • Supports Quality, Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), and Risk Management policies and programs.
  • Participates as a member of assigned hospital committees.
  • Directs and develops Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives in assigned areas.
  • Ensures QI through ongoing indicator monitoring.
  • Recognizes areas for improvement and puts programs in place to resolve these.
  • Oversees assigned units' QI activity, reports, and projects.
  • Coordinates the provision of safe efficient, and economical nursing care in line with established standards of practice.
  • Supports direct care to patients and families.
  • Collaborates with patients, families and healthcare professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Conducts rounds in all patient care areas; is abreast of clinical issues, staffing patterns and customer service needs.
  • Oversees assigned unit performance.
  • Ensures adequate numbers of competent, engaged staff to deliver care, keeping within the budgeted allowances.
  • Ensures the delivery of ongoing training and development of staff.
  • Motivates others and delegates responsibilities to ensure goals are met.
  • Supports and develops leadership talent in others and seeks opportunities to develop future leaders for the American Hospital Dubai by role modelling and mentoring staff.
  • Advances and supports the professional nurse in the roles of provider, teacher and patient advocate.
  • Functions as a key member of the American Hospital Dubai Management and Nursing Leadership team.
  • Participates in management meetings and supports the hospital's long-term goals.
  • Provides direction and support to front-line nursing managers.
  • Plans, directs and monitors the scheduling and utilization of human resources to meet staffing needs based on patient acuity and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations.
  • Develops and supports plans and programs related to nursing education and oversees compliance with mandatory education requirements.
  • Creates and supports an environment which fosters teamwork, cooperation, respect and diversity.
  • Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, co-workers and all others in a respectful, courteous and confidential manner.
  • Ensures a safe working environment through compliance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrates a high level of organizational problem-solving skills ensuring efficient functioning of hospital systems.
  • Assumes responsibility as a hospital administrator when required.
  • Assures financial performance in both operational and capital acquisition processes for assigned units in the nursing department in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Uses an analytical approach to ensure balanced initiatives between clinical excellence and financial performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (minimum of three (3) years full-time course duration) or
  • Degree in Nursing (minimum two (2) years course duration) and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
  • For UAE nationals graduates of UAE or non-UAE universities are exempted from the experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title. (UAE nationals must submit a copy of their birth certificate and the mother's family book).
  • Non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities are required to successfully complete six (6) months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and assistant Nurse titles).
  • Must hold a valid License/Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
  • Must hold a minimum of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or others according to the scope of practice.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of Clinical experience in the Nursing Department.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Managerial experience in the Nursing Department.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA).
  • Skills in Leadership and Management.
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently.
  • Ability to speak and write in Arabic preferred.
