Principal Advisor, Communications and Engagement
He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission is an independent agency dedicated to driving climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a strong statutory mandate. We provide impartial, evidence-based advice to the Government on mitigating and adapting to climate change. We also monitor progress towards emissions reduction and adaptation goals and report on this publicly. Join the Commission as we expand our efforts from primarily mitigation to a comprehensive approach that includes adaptation, the national climate risk assessment, and monitoring the country's progress on climate action. Be part of this exciting transition as we take on our expanded work program as set out in the Climate Change Response Act (CCRA). We recognise the importance of te ao Māori. We uphold the treaty partnership by ensuring our work reflects Māori views and Te Tiriti o Waitangi The Treaty of Waitangi. The Principal Advisor, Communications and Engagement in the Commission's Impact team leads end-to-end communications and engagement activities to support our work programme under the CCCRA. This includes communications advice, planning, content development and stakeholder engagement. This role will be assigned to various project teams and may be required to provide organisation-wide support as required. As a Principal Advisor, this role is also responsible for helping the Manager - Impact to build and enhance the overall capability of the team and will be expected to coach and mentor other members of staff. The likely appointment range for this role is between $138,744 to $156,087 per annum, depending on skills and experience. - Providing leadership on a diverse range of projects, ensuring efficient execution and delivery.
- Leading stakeholder and engagement communications plans, helping to develop stakeholder engagement and communications tools and templates, and operating as the system owner for identified channels relevant to your role.
- Preparing speeches, media statements, presentations, commentary, social media content and other materials in a clear and well-structured manner related to specific projects.
- Leading in building a culture of collaboration and inclusiveness by proactively providing mentorship to others in the wider team.
- Demonstrating that cultural responsiveness is valued, understood, and applied within the Commission by embedding te ao Māori (te reo Māori, tikanga, kawa, Te Tiriti o Waitangi) into the way we do things.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
- Experience in product design, publication, and communications
- Demonstrated high levels of integrity
- Knowledge of the machinery of government, the contemporary political environment and government policies, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi and Te Ao Māori
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Highly effective planning and organisational skills, including time management and prioritising work in a complex work environment
