Facility Engineer Position Summary: We are seeking a full time Facility Engineer to join our Agile Facilities team in Calgary, Alberta. The Facilities team is a multi-disciplinary team using Agile Project Management. The Facility Engineer will provide expertise in surface facility design, design optimization, cost reduction initiatives, vendor identification and selection, and technical inputs for regulatory applications. As the project progresses, the Facility Engineer will be engaged in detailed design, commissioning and operations planning for E3’s operations with a focus on cost reduction and assurance of a safe operation. Mandate: Execute Facility Engineering deliverables in support of the E3 surface facility team. Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and peer review deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, line lists, data sheets, material selection, technical specifications, design calculations, and equipment lists.
  2. Take on a variety of projects and establish the course of action necessary to expedite successful accomplishment of the assigned project.
  3. Complete comparative studies and make recommendations for equipment and process integration and optimization decisions that are technically sound and that meet corporate economic, CAPEX and OPEX goals.
  4. Assess and select materials for a severe service operating environment.
  5. Establish acceptance criteria to evaluate and select contractors and fabricators.
  6. Write clear and detailed scopes of work for third party contractors.
  7. Review vendor and subcontractor quotations, drawings and specifications, for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements.
  8. Monitor consultants, fabricators, contractors and vendors while work is being executed to ensure that work is completed to the agreed upon quality, schedule and cost requirements.
  9. Support development, implementation and maintenance of discipline design standards, specifications and procedures.
  10. Participate in risk assessments and HAZOPs.
  11. Work with the commercial team to define and execute contracts.
  12. Mentor and train other team members in your areas of expertise.
  13. Participate in the development of intradepartmental processes which align teams and support how work is executed at E3.
  14. Execute work following Agile methodology and promote a positive team culture.
Education & Experience:
  1. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 12 years of experience.
  2. Mechanical engineering expertise is as asset.
  3. Registered as a PEng with APEGA.
  4. Agile project execution experience is an asset.
  5. Experience at a producing or manufacturing company is required.
  6. Facility engineering experience in the areas of manufacturing, water treatment or the oil and gas sector is required.
  7. Experience working with an operations team is an asset.
  8. Understand the OH&S, AER regulatory, Pressure Vessel and Codes and Standards requirements from regulating agencies in Alberta.
  9. Knowledge of design codes and how to apply them (ASME, CSA, API, NACE)
  10. Ability to develop specifications for piping, valves, fittings, rotating equipment, and vessels, or the ability work with a third party to develop specifications.
  11. Demonstrated engineering experience in some or all of these areas:
  • Wellpad and pipeline piping design.
  • Vessel design for two phase separation.
  • Acid gas compression.
  • Ion Exchange.
  • Membrane treatment (ie. Reverse Osmosis and Nanofiltration).
  • Evaporation.
  • Utilities and offsites.
  • Tank design and vapour recovery units.
  • Cogeneration and heat recovery units.
  • System Hydraulics and Pump sizing.
  • Materials and coatings selection. Experience with non-metallic materials is an asset.
  • Control valve sizing and selection.
  • Instrumentation and controls experience is an asset.
  • Design in sour gas or other toxic, corrosive environments.
  • Risk review and HAZOP analysis including resolution and close out.
