Job Title: Design Engineer Location: UK/EU - Hybrid Position Type: Full-time Introduction: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated designer to join our engineering team to support our continued growth delivering data centre aisle containment and cage solutions in the UK & Europe. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in SolidWorks , CAD design, and sheet metal design. As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in creating and optimising our aisle containment systems for data centres and other critical environments. Your expertise will be critical in designing solutions that ensure optimal airflow, efficiency, and safety in these spaces. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Modeling:
- Utilise SolidWorks and CAD to create precise and detailed models of aisle containment systems, including both fixed physical containment structures and related hardware components (e.g., panels, seals, doors).
- Sheet Metal Design:
- Develop detailed designs and specifications for sheet metal components, ensuring that all designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet the required standards for structural integrity and performance.
- Product Customisation and Innovation:
- Work closely with sales, project managers, clients, and other team members to customise and innovate aisle containment systems based on unique project requirements.
- Collaboration:
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including sales, production, procurement, and installation teams to ensure seamless integration of designs from concept to finished product.
- Prototyping and Testing:
- Oversee the prototyping process for new designs, performing testing and quality assurance to ensure all components meet performance and safety requirements.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Create comprehensive design documentation, including part lists, assembly drawings, and technical specifications. Maintain accurate records of design iterations and revisions.
- Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure designs adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements, including safety, environmental, and quality compliance.
- Problem Solving:
- Provide innovative solutions to design challenges, including optimising for manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and functionality.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in SolidWorks , CAD design , and sheet metal design . Experience in designing aisle containment or similar systems for data centres or industrial applications is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Extensive knowledge of sheet metal design principles, fabrication methods, and material selection.
- Strong understanding of 3D modeling, 2D drawings, and engineering tolerances.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes related to sheet metal and custom components.
- Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering , Industrial Design , or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with data centre design or facility infrastructure.
- Proficiency with additional engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, or other design tools).
- Familiarity with thermal management and airflow optimisation in data centre or IT environments.
- Ability to work in a design office environment, with occasional visits to manufacturing or installation sites.
