We currently employ and deliver services to multiple clients across Canada. ROLE OBJECTIVE: Hardline Engineering is currently looking for a Senior Substation Engineer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Program Manager, Substations, the Senior Substation Engineer will have extensive expertise in the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical substations. As a Senior Substation Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of substation systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Lead the design and development of electrical substations, ensuring compliance with industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
  • Oversee the selection and specification of equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, protection systems, and control systems.
  • Perform technical calculations, studies, and analyses for substation design, including short-circuit studies, load flow studies, and grounding analysis.
  • Ensure that designs meet safety, reliability, and environmental standards.
  • Manage and coordinate substation projects from conception through to completion, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Oversee the procurement of materials and equipment for substation construction and commissioning.
  • Prepare and manage project schedules, budgets, and reports, including progress tracking.
  • Provide site construction and commissioning support when needed.
  • Collect, interpret, and organize project engineering and vendor data.
  • Interface with senior personnel to resolve potential technical and project issues.
  • Provide mentoring guidance and direction to junior members of the team.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from a program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
  • Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer or equivalent Canadian professional agency required.
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical substation design and engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of substation design principles, electrical systems, and protection schemes.
  • Strong proficiency in substation design software (e.G., AutoCAD, ETAP, PSS/E, etc.).
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering substation projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with tight timelines.
  • Self-motivated, positive attitude, strong client focus and results driven.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with internal and external customers, stakeholders and co-workers.
  • Excellent organizational skills that demonstrates the ability to resolve conflicting priorities.
