Senior Legal Counsel – Expat Opportunity in Kuwait Living/working in Europe and willing to temporarily relocate to Kuwait as an expat We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at an energy company located in Kuwait . Based at our headquarters in Kuwait, you’ll play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal advice for our LNG and energy trading activities. This is a unique opportunity to work on cross-border energy projects and influence high-level strategic decisions in a dynamic and fast-paced industry. Your Role As a Senior Legal Counsel reporting to the Head of Legal Affairs Department, you will be the trusted legal advisor for LNG and energy trading operations within the group. You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams and international stakeholders to address complex legal challenges and support the company’s strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading LNG Transactions : Draft, negotiate, and execute complex long-term LNG Sales & Purchase Agreements (SPAs) valued in the $-billions.
- Negotiating LNG Master SPAs : Develop and negotiate agreements with international suppliers and customers to enhance our market position.
- Supporting Trading Activities : Provide legal guidance for spot cargo operations and LNG trading activities.
- Optimizing LNG Facilities : Design legal frameworks for utilizing LNG facilities, including storage and reloading capacities.
- Exports : Advise on legal aspects of crude oil and petroleum products exports
- Litigations - Dispute Resolution : Oversee legal proceedings and manage litigation and dispute resolution related to within the LNG activities.
- Collaborating Across Functions : Work closely with commercial and operational teams to overcome legal challenges and achieve strategic goals.
- Ensuring Compliance : Guarantee adherence to international energy trading regulations, as well as Kuwait law and corporate governance requirements.
- Strong Educational Background : A qualified solicitor admitted to practice in the Senior Courts of England and Wales and/or a qualified Attorney-at-Law in a state of the US.
- Extensive Experience : Over 20 years of expertise in energy law and international commercial transactions.
- LNG Expertise : Proven track record in LNG and energy trading transactions, including negotiating complex agreements.
- In-House Experience : Substantial experience in the oil & gas or energy trading sector, ideally in an international environment.
- Regulatory Knowledge : Deep understanding of international energy trading laws and practices.
- Global Perspective : Experience working across multiple jurisdictions, particularly with cross-border deals.
- Relocation Commitment : Willingness to relocate to Kuwait as a long-term expat.
