About us
National Grid is at the heart of the UK energy network keeping people connected and society moving. We develop, own, and maintain the physical infrastructure, such as pylons and cables needed to move the electricity generated from wind farms and power sources around the country.About the role
This role is based within our Customer Connections Team. This is the department that connects customers — such as data centers, battery storage projects, offshore wind farms, transport networks, and solar farms — to the electricity transmission network. The connections process is key to delivering the capacity needed for an efficient and renewable transmission network and we need to deliver an increasing number of highly complex and exciting new projects. In this role, you would play a crucial role in enabling us to do this. The team you would be joining is responsible for various tasks related to project validation and cost management. These tasks include validating actual costs, providing cost assurance, supporting estimating activities, reviewing Early Warning Notices, assisting with Notices of Compensation Events, supporting actual Compensation Events, and maintaining Project Risk Registers. Some of your accountabilities will include:- Support tender activities where required, using benchmark data and eHub cost estimates
- Support audit of Subcontractors' works on site against Valuations/Payment Certificates
- Supporting Invoice reconciliation
- Providing cost Value Report Appraisal
- Overseeing the validation of the Contractor’s forecast
- Assist in contractual claims and the Early Warning/Compensation Event process

What you'll need to apply
- You'll need to be in your penultimate year at University, on track to achieve a minimum 2:2 in a Quantity Surveying degree discipline.
- You’ll need to commit to a 12-month Industrial Placement that will begin in June 2025 and be eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting.
- You’ll need flexibility to travel within the role and throughout your placement as required.
- Due to the amount of travel to our site locations, you’ll need to have a valid full UK Driving License and access to a vehicle for your time on the program (business insurance will be required).
