This role will support a Department of State, Department of Defense, or other agency contract at an assigned location within or outside the U.S. The Fire Chief is responsible for directing operations and managing administration affairs of the program's fire section. Tasks:
- Integrate the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) program throughout operations to safeguard employees and foster an environment where everyone is a safety champion.
- Direct daily operations for the fire section and evaluate to ensure high performance.
- Create policies and procedures that direct functions of the fire section while ensuring compliance with customer requirements.
- Develop and implement operational plans to assure alternative courses of action which provide or address realistic operations.
- Brief program manager, customer, or other assigned officials developments within the fire protection industry that require change in policy or operations, and submit recommended course of action, while assuring compliance with customer requirements and with federal and state requirements.
- Coordinate continued development of fire section team members.
- Coordinate recruitment for the fire and emergency section and continuously inform program manager of developments within the industry that could impact recruiting effort.
- Take the lead in identifying and mitigating risk in the workplace.
- Lead ethically and efficiently.
- Set and clearly communicate vision and goals for employees within the fire team.
- Communicate feedback and direction clearly.
- Support team and chain of command with decision-making.
- Perform additional duties as may be assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
This position requires broad knowledge of the fire and emergency services industry, including principles in fire and emergency services.- Ten (10) or more years' firefighting experience with at least three (3) or more years in a leadership role within fire and emergency services.
- High school diploma or GED.
- The following certificates are required:
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Officer II.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Firefighter I & II.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Inspector I.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Instructor I.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Airport Fire Fighter.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Level.
- CPR Certification.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS): ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
- The following certificates are preferred:
- Associate of Science degree in Fire Science.
- EMT-B or higher.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Officer III.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Inspector II.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Instructor II.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD or State Certified Driver Operator Pumper / Mobile Water Supply.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD or State Certified Driver Operator ARFF.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS): ICS 300 and 400.
- IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Hazardous Materials Incident Commander.
- Previous USAP experience.
- Oversees experience in large installations.
- Knowledge of all principles and processes involved in fire and emergency services, with ability to maintain all required certifications and licensures.
- Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Expert communication skills in the English language, including ability to use data to create reports and brief clearly on the same.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- Ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.
Physical and Other Requirements
- As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established.
- Perform arduous climbing, lifting, raising, running, and crawling.
- Physical activities to include lifting up to the safety regulation maximum, climbing, crawling, and dragging hose. Duties will be performed indoors and outdoors, and work may be performed in a variety of weather conditions including severe cold, wind, and limited visibility.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required.
