Job Description

Math Head of Department (HOD) – American Curriculum

Job Overview:

The Math Head of Department (HOD) will be responsible for leading and managing the mathematics department for grades that follow the American curriculum. The role includes curriculum planning, teacher mentorship, and ensuring the consistent and high-quality delivery of math instruction. The HOD will work collaboratively with teachers, administration, and support staff to foster a positive and productive learning environment that meets the educational standards and needs of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development and Implementation:
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of the American curriculum math program for relevant grades.
  • Ensure alignment of teaching practices with the curriculum standards and adapt materials when necessary.
  • Develop and update the department's curriculum in collaboration with faculty and school administration.
Leadership and Management:
  • Lead and manage the math department staff, including conducting regular meetings and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to math teachers to improve instructional practices.
  • Set clear departmental goals and ensure the staff meets those goals through ongoing assessment and feedback.
Teacher Development:
  • Conduct regular observations of math teachers and provide constructive feedback.
  • Organize professional development opportunities for teachers to improve their knowledge and teaching methods in mathematics.
  • Facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions on effective teaching strategies and curriculum delivery.
Student Achievement and Assessment:
  • Monitor student performance through data analysis, assessments, and standard testing, ensuring students meet academic goals.
  • Implement strategies to support students who are underperforming and develop enrichment programs for high achievers.
  • Collaborate with teachers on assessments, grading, and reporting to ensure consistency and fairness.
Collaboration with Administration:
  • Work closely with the school leadership to meet school-wide goals and policies.
  • Report regularly on departmental progress and suggest improvements to curriculum delivery and teaching standards.
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings, school events, and leadership discussions.
Resource Management:
  • Manage departmental resources, including textbooks, teaching materials, and equipment.
  • Ensure that the math department is well-equipped with necessary tools for teaching and learning.
  • Develop and manage the department’s budget and resource allocation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Teaching certification or credentials in the American curriculum.
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of student achievement in math education.
  • Strong understanding of the American curriculum standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead a team of educators.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of mathematics content and pedagogy.
  • Ability to mentor and coach teachers.
  • Proficient in data analysis and use of student performance data to drive instruction.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive learning environment and culture.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in mathematics, specifically within the American curriculum.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and educational technology.
