The United Nations (UN) Multi-sectoral seeks a Project & Civil Engineering applicant. The incumbent Project & Civil Engineer will be responsible for identifying and carrying out feasibility studies of infrastructures for basic services, designing plans and bill of quantities, supervising infrastructure projects implementation and reporting. The Engineer has the responsibility to support the implementation of infrastructure activities related to the design, works, supervision and quality assurance. The Project/Civil Engineer should provide technical expertise assuring that the projects produce the results specified in the Project Documents for the infrastructure components, to the required standard of quality and within the specified constraints of time and cost.Duties and Accountabilities

Technical tasks:

Implement approved work packages (including the establishment of milestones) within tolerances set by the Project Managers.

Manage the production of the required products, taking responsibility for overall progress & use of resources.

Liaise with any external suppliers or Account Managers.

Review contractor's method statements, safeguards requirements & monitor compliance.Coordination, delivery & performance:

Responsible for day to day coordination with the contractors & suppliers according to the needs & requirements on site.

Inspect & report on contractor's works in progress ensuring that the contractor meets our clients quality standards.

Provide support & guidance to the contractor & assist in resolving site problems, as necessary.Personnel management:

Lead & motivate the teams under his/her supervision by encouraging members to work together as a team.

Ensure that behavioral expectations of team members are established.

Ensure that performance reviews are conducted.

Identify outstanding staff & bring them to the attention of the supervisor.Education:

Master's degree or equivalent in architecture, or civil engineering is required.

Bachelor's degree in architecture or civil engineering in combination with an additional 5 years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of Master's degree.Experience:

Up to 2 years (with Master's degree) or minimum 5 years (with Bachelor's degree) of relevant experience in infrastructure project implementation, in particular in works monitoring in the fields of:

Construction Engineering, including structural designs engineering; and/or

Architectural Engineering.Required Skills:

Good organizational and time management skills.

Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

Demonstrates integrity by modeling ethical standards.

Excellent information technology skills, including word processing, database applications, presentation software, and internet.

Ability to work under very tight deadlines.

Evidence of ability to express ideas clearly; to work independently and in a team.Desired Skills:

Work experience in international organizations and/or government institutions would be an asset.

Work experience in development of technical documentation and construction works monitoring would be an asset.

Experience in monitoring and reporting on designing, technical control and supervision of work.

Builds strong relationships with clients and external actors.

Ability to demonstrate a sense of self-assuredness.

Focuses on impact and result for the client and responds positively to critical feedback.

Ability to summarize and systematize complex information.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Team management experience is desired for this role.Languages:
