Te Haeata/The Opportunity This is an exciting time for us as we look to implement and embed our new “Resilience and Assurance” operating and service delivery model. The new model intends to drive greater consistency, quality, and accountability for the services we deliver by putting more emphasis on “the way we deliver services”, and on lifting broader capability. The Senior Information Security Consultant (Senior Consultant) provides support to the Manager Security Assurance in day-to-day management of the security assurance function in the Ministry. The Senior Consultant will apply their deep expertise of industry frameworks, standards, and best practice to drive uplift in information security management and assurance capability in way that is robust, sustainable and business focused. Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other information security consultants and ministry stakeholders for providing high quality information security assurance and consultancy services that enable business needs while ensuring compliance.
  • Assist in developing strategies to lift the Te Tāhū o te Ture 's collective cyber security capability through the establishment of robust training and awareness programmes and the development of supporting policies, standards, practices and guidance.
  • Perform scoping, budgeting, planning, and management of information security assurance work to meet security objectives and organisational goals.
  • Perform on-going security assurance activities such as security certification and accreditation (C&A), security testing and security advisories.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across Corporate & Digital Services (CDS) and the wider Te Tāhū o te Ture to foster a positive security culture and ensure a joined-up approach to security governance and assurance.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring reporting mechanisms for information.
  • Support the Security Assurance Manager in fulfilling Information Technology Security Manager (ITSM) accountabilities as defined in the NZISM with a key focus on security policy, risk management and assurance elements of the role.
  • Ensure closely aligned work across Resilience and Assurance Services and the Chief Digital Office to maximise opportunity and value delivery.

  • Extensive experience in cyber security consultancy, risk and assurance and information security management
  • Excellent understanding of the information and technical security issues faced by large enterprise organisations and the security industry
  • Strong team player with demonstrable track record in sizing, scoping and resourcing risk and assurance projects
  • Fantastic attention to detail, time management, stakeholder management and multi-tasking capabilities
  • Proactive customer and business focussed approach
  • Understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori me onā tikanga

We facilitate the security assurance processes to ensure that information security risks are identified and mitigated appropriately throughout the project lifecycle and operational processes. We also assist in maintaining security policies and processes and provide user awareness training on day-to-day activities to ensure everyone at the Ministry has access to information that allows them to perform their jobs safely. Utu ā-tau/Salary The appointing salary for this role will be between $126,427 and $176,789 based on skills and experience.
