Their organisation has a multi-discipline engineering focus with operations that include fabrication, manufacturing, switch boards, electrical, instrumentation and industrial control systems.

Currently the work force is approximately 120 and that includes an engineering team of 25-30.

They provide a range of products, semi customised equipment solutions and bespoke projects for their clients and they are actively expanding both their standard product lines and capability to turn out engineering and projects for the top tier mining, oil and gas clients.

Projects typically range in size from $250k to $10m but with the sweet spot being $1-10m. These vary from pure fabrication or field services through to complete turnkey/EPC projects, such as gas drainage plants and power station feeds.

They pride themselves on the delivery of excellent products and solutions on tight schedules and budgets, bringing the best from large and small organisations together. They typically do this by "insourcing" and integration across the product development lifecycle.

Ideal Candidate Background You need to have significant experience managing and leading other controls engineers. Australian market experience is essential (probably 3-5 years as a minimum) and complete comfort with Australian standards. Excellent communication skills - verbal and written. A background in Electrical work within the Oil & Gas, Mining and/or the Industrial industries . A broad electrical understanding is needed, strength here on power systems and HV is helpful; understanding switchboards is ideal. Instrumentation expertise is ideal. Our instrumentation applications are high calibre, we need our people to be! Hazardous area experience is a major advantage. RPEQ status . Primary Areas of Responsibility Technical Leadership - You will oversee the development and usage of internal standards and templates. We plan on continuing to outsource development of large control systems (this can change once there are runs on the board with hitting deadlines and budgets here). Oversight of scopes, standards/specifications and contractor performance is an important part of the role.

Team Management - The current team is 8-10 in size and comprises a variety of job functions: senior engineers, switchboard designer, drafter, intermediate engineer, control systems engineers, a graduate engineer etc. The focus here will be managing people, productivity, workload and outcomes, getting good value for money. You will need to be a strong manager and a good people person with high EQ. You will need to be able to understand a broad range of issues, get input from technical people, check standards and then guide the group. Project Management - Not in the formal sense of the term but with regard to understanding where the technical engineering work fits into the broader project and commercial management of the business. For example, you need to have an appreciation for spending and scope. You need to understand time cost, budgets, hitting deadlines and sensible product/design decisions. Other Areas of Focus - Review and checking of electrical and instrument deliverables. Instrument and electrical equipment selection. Preparation of hazardous area design and documentation. Maintenance and operational documentation for electrical equipment. Assisting with, and at times preparing, estimates and scoping projects. Preparing for, overseeing and preforming factory acceptance testing. Periodically there will be site commissioning and also acceptance testing may be required. At times preparing and reviewing functional descriptions. Further developing and implementing internal systems, specifications and standardisation.
