The Opportunity The advertised position is within the Battlespace Communication System (BCS) Program. BCS is a next generation networking product that is the centerpiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for users. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs. We have a range of opportunities available as we plan for future growth. This role will engage you to apply your current skills and knowledge to contribute to the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the Software Development Environment and deployment of software to the Systems Integration Facility within the BCS. Responsibilities Perform Linux systems administration tasks such as user account management, workstation and server provisioning, inventory tracking, systems monitoring and triagingCreate and maintain infrastructure and software development environment documentationActively participate in regular software deployment to the System Integration FacilityProvide ongoing support to project team members particularly software and systems engineersConduct ad-hoc testing within the Systems Integration Facility as requiredContribute to environment automation using infrastructure as code conceptsActively participate in the agile methodology and collaborate within your teamReview pull requests, and provide constructive feedbackParticipate in code reviews and provide constructive feedbackThe ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse team, in a conscientious and inclusive way Experience/Qualifications Essential: Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.We invite a diverse range of people to apply, including people from outside of the defence industry.Linux knowledge and skills with an understanding of the operating system, system administration and virtualizationSound understanding of IP networks, including routing principles, NAT, IPv4, IPv6, subnets, DNS, DHCP and firewalls Desirable: Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, Information Technology related fields or equivalent industry experienceExperience within Defence or complex engineering project environments is desirableKnowledge of or experience with VMWare as an administratorKnowledge of or experience with software languages such as Python, Ansible, Bash, Go are highly desirableKnowledge of or experience with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, BitbucketKnowledge of or experience with DevSecOps toolchain including Jenkins, Gitlab, Artifactory, SonarQubeAn ability to develop and maintain documentation and reports related to managing IT systems and network topologiesSound knowledge of all aspects of the software development lifecycle with an agile mindsetA high level of organizational and time management skillsWell organised with the ability to multitask and perform under pressureStrong communication and documentation skills Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
