Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)Roster: Monday to FridayEmployment Type: Permanent Full TimeWhat we Value: Essential Work Experience Qualifications & Skills: • Recognised Geotechnical, Geology, Civil and or mining engineering tertiary qualifications.• Extensive experience in underground hard rock geotechnical engineering.• Experience in underground mass mining (SLC or Block Cave)• Experience training and advising on rock mass characterisation and geotechnical core logging.• Experience using geotechnical and geological software for cave management. Leapfrog Geo & Central mXrap Deswik • Experience in dynamic ground support design and evaluation of geotechnical hazard assessment.• Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal.• Well developed skills in Microsoft office suite. Desirable Work Experience Qualifications & Skills: • Further education in relevant geoscience disciplines.• Experience using/ interpreting finite element modelling. How You Will Create Impact: The position is responsible for: Geotechnical input into the long-term design phase of the Carrapateena block cave. Focusing on elimination, substitution, and engineering controls to the identified geotechnical caving hazards, whilst planning for the execution of tactical operational controls. Collaboration with external SME's to refine and develop the pre-conditioning and cave engineering designs for the block cave. Caveability assessments of the Carrapateena block cave, both empirically and numerically as the orebody knowledge grows. Selecting target areas and appropriate methodologies for sampling and data collection to further build Orebody knowledge that enables value decisions for BHP. Engagement with the other OBK functions to develop cross discipline data collection programs to harvest the maximum OBK data from all sources within the budgetary and time constraints. Geotechnical data collection quality as defined by the asset and company standards. Training on geotechnical rock mass characterisation and conduct data validation checks Manage the development, periodic update, and socialisation of the Carrapateena Geotechnical block model. Liaise, collaborate, and manage a range of diverse internal and external key stakeholders. Seek to understand their needs and expectations whilst collaborating with key decision makers to implement change. Lead and coordinate dynamic ground support and seismic hazard management investigations for the Block Cave. Input into the design of best practice monitoring system to determine the medium and long­ term rock mass performance. Assist in the identification of major cave hazards and opportunities, assess their risk ranking and develop best practice safety in design mitigation controls.
