Our client, the City of Bathurst, is looking to expand its team and is actively searching for a Bilingual Director of Urban Planning to join the team. Reporting to the CAO, the Director of Planning will be responsible for preparing land use planning, research studies, reporting, and analysis to support Developmental Planning initiatives. Additionally, you will be responsible for responding to public inquiries on zoning, processing development permit approvals, and issuing Zoning Certificates.Why City of Bathurst?Full-time/ 35 hours per weekHyrbid/ flexiblity work arrangementsFantastic core of leadersExtensive benefit planKey ResponsibilitiesAct as a file manager for development applications, including application processing, review, and analysis.Conduct studies on a wide variety of current residential, commercial, and industrial development trends, opportunities, and initiatives.Consult with applicants, owners and architects and liaise with other departments, citizens' groups, and standing committees.Prepare comprehensive planning reports, recommendations, and policy proposals for submission to managers, Council, and various committees;Drafts bylaws and amendments to address the city's changing needs, interpret the bylaws applicable to applicants, and the public and answers a variety of related inquiries.Provide technical information, advice and assistance to other departments, external stakeholders, government agencies and the general public in a manner that is tactful, clear, concise, and professional.Prepare graphics and other material for presentation at meetings such as public hearings and public information meetings.Review, revise, and develop departmental policies as required.Prepare and maintain records, statistics, reports, and correspondence, including word processing and data entry into the municipal database, and respond to internal and external inquiries.Review legal instruments and coordinate necessary approvals and registrations.Attend various internal and external meetings in a professional planning capacity to provide professional expertise and receive public input.Perform planning review, research, and follow-up on special projects, as well as function as a project manager.Attend or present development applications to Council and/or various committee meetings, as required.Education and ExperienceDegree from a recognized institution in Community Planning or Urban Geography with a focus on land use planning or Urban Design, or in a discipline related to Planning.Minimum of two (2) years of land use planning experience in a municipal setting.Experience with database and MS Office programs.Experience with statutory requirements, bylaws, and regulations applicable to municipal planning.Experience with economics and standard statistical techniques and research methods as applied to community/development planning at the municipal and regional level.Experience and knowledge of planning legislation and ability to perform legislative planning functions associated with the Community Planning Act.Knowledge of trends and developments in community/development planning and urban design.Eligible to become a full member of the New Brunswick Association of Planners.Skills and AbilitiesStrong organizational and analysis skills to resolve complex planning and development concerns and issues.Ability to work with tight timelines.Ability to work independently and with minimal assistance.Communication skills applied to presentation, both verbally and in writing.Fluent communication in French and English languages.Interested applicants should click "Apply Now" or send a copy of your resume to maggie@teamjmc.ca.
