As a Crown corporation, we are owned solely by the Government of Canada, and mandated by the Royal Canadian Mint Act to mint coins in anticipation of profit and to carry out other related activities.Our vision is to be the best mint in the world through our customer focus, talented people, commitment to sustainable practices and the value it adds to Canada and Canadians.The Royal Canadian Mint is looking to staff a pool of pre-qualified candidates to fill future Protective Services Officer vacancies.Full-Time (40 hrs)Permanent Part-time(20-40 hrs) Casual (0-40 hrs)Reporting to the Supervisor, Protective Services, the Protective Services Officers (PSOs) are the font line of security defense. You ensure the security and safety of the Mint's staff, assets & facilities. You monitor and respond to alarms and inform the Control Room and Supervisor in cases of emergencies or the presence of unauthorized persons. You investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities. You conduct preventive patrols, providing threat and risk analysis, controlling and monitoring access of pedestrian and vehicular traffic flows on the Mint's premises. The PSO enforces security policies and regulations, and responds to emergencies, including HAZMAT response, fire and medical emergencies in accordance with established and recognized emergency plans and procedures.QUALIFICATIONS:Language Requirements: Bilingual in both of Canada's official languages (English and French). Single official language profiles will be considered. Must be willing to learn official second language.Education and Experience: Post-secondary certificate or diploma in a related field, relevant experience will also be consideredValid First Aid and CPR certificate requiredValid provincial driver's licence requiredValid firearms Possession & Acquisition Licence (PAL) for restricted and non-restricted firearms is an asset (click here for course & license information)Experience identifying suspicious behaviour considered an assetExperience working in a high-security environment considered an assetExperience working with HAZMAT or industrial firefighting considered a strong assetKnowledge: Knowledge in corporate security processes and emergency proceduresKnowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada (sections pertaining to use of force & powers of arrest)Knowledge in accident prevention and safety, crisis intervention & de-escalation techniquesKnowledge of access control, intrusion detection, alarm monitoring systems, CCTV and other security systemsKnowledge of visitor management systems, x-ray operation and/or hand scanningAbilities: Ability to conduct security surveys, identify risks to the organization and respond effectivelyAbility to escalate and report information in a timely mannerAbility to write clear and concise reportsAbility to motivate and maintain a positive work environmentAbility to work independently and to work with others as a teamHigh level of integrity & attention to detailSkills: Critical ThinkingConflict Resolution and Problem SolvingInterpersonal SkillsCultural AwarenessSelf-StarterMandatory Recruit Training Program (Paid)The mandatory PSO training program includes:Use of Force (5 Days)Firearms (Pistol) (5 Days)HAZMAT Technician Safety Course (5 Days)SOPs, Systems & Post TrainingYou must be available to work shifts including: days, evenings, overnights, weekends & holidays.Selected candidates will be required to complete:A background check facilitated by the Mint, in order to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
